The Lagos State Police Command has officially verified the exhumation of the body of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, more widely recognized as Mohbad, on Thursday.
Moreover, the police have taken into custody the nurse who allegedly administered an injection to the deceased singer just before his passing on Tuesday, September 12.
In an exclusive telephone interview, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed these developments on Thursday, stating, “Mohbad’s body has been exhumed today, and an autopsy will commence shortly.”
Regarding inquiries about arrests related to the singer’s demise, Hundeyin responded, “I cannot provide information about the arrests at this time, as I don’t have that update. However, I can confirm that the nurse is in our custody.”
The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, previously directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohynwa, to launch a prompt and comprehensive investigation into Mohbad’s tragic passing.
According to an official statement released on a late Saturday night by Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Egbetokun’s directive was conveyed during a crucial discussion at the Police Airwing Hangar in Lagos on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
The goal is to uncover the truth surrounding the circumstances of Mohbad’s untimely death, addressing the concerns and speculations that have arisen.
The Nigeria Police Force is urging family members or close associates with valuable information about this case to cooperate with the Lagos State Police Command to ensure a thorough examination of Mohbad’s demise.
Furthermore, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, invited the Department of Security Services (DSS) to participate in the investigation, aiming to employ inter-agency collaboration and advanced technology to reveal the truth and hold responsible parties accountable.
The state government implores anyone with crucial information to share it with the investigative team, assuring the confidentiality and protection of witnesses.
In the meantime, Mohbad’s management has announced a candlelight procession and tribute night in his honor, as his fans and sympathizers call for a thorough investigation into the cause of his death.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana also met with the late singer’s widow, Omowunmi, and engaged with the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to ensure that justice is served in the matter.
He commended the peaceful protests by Nigerian youths demanding justice and pledged to collaborate with the coroner to unveil those responsible for Mohbad’s suspicious death.
