Today, the Senate is conducting a thorough examination of the Central Bank Governor Cardoso and his deputies

Date:

Today, Tuesday, the Senate is set to conduct a confirmation screening for Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, who currently serves as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

This screening aims to confirm his appointment to the substantive role, along with four nominees for the positions of Deputy Governors of the CBN, who will play crucial roles in managing the apex bank for the next five years.

The Senate, also known as the Red Chamber, is resuming its legislative activities after a two-month annual vacation.

Additionally, they have scheduled the screening of two ministerial nominees proposed by President Bola Tinubu for Tuesday, October 3, 2023. These details were announced by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele’s Media Office in a statement issued on Monday evening.

During the National Assembly’s break, President Tinubu appointed Dr. Jamila Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande as the Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively. Furthermore, Tinubu nominated Dr. Cardoso to assume the role of the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, pending confirmation by the Senate.

Last week, Dr. Cardoso took on the responsibilities of CBN governor in an acting capacity while awaiting the Senate’s screening and confirmation.

The statement from the Senate Leader’s office clarified that Dr. Cardoso’s screening would be conducted alongside four Deputy Governors: Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
