Radio, television, theater, and arts workers are set to halt their activities as part of a nationwide industrial action scheduled to commence on October 3, 2023.
This decision was communicated through an indefinite nationwide strike notice issued by the Radio, Television, Theatre, and Arts Workers Union of Nigeria (RATTAWU), signed by its General Secretary, Comrade A. Akpausoh.
The union’s announcement follows a recent meeting of the National Executive Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on September 26, 2023.
During this meeting, it was resolved that all affiliates of these congresses should participate in a comprehensive nationwide indefinite strike action, commencing on Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
In essence, this means that there will be a complete cessation of operations in our sectors throughout the duration of the action.
As a result, all state councils and chapters of the union across the nation have been instructed to mobilize their members to ensure the effective implementation of the strike action.
Furthermore, Vice Presidents in their respective zones have been called upon to oversee and ensure full compliance with this directive.
The union underscores the importance of standing against injustice, stating, “Remember, ‘He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.
