On Monday, Chicago State University complied with a request from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar by releasing President Bola Tinubu’s academic records, as ordered by an Illinois court.
This court ruling came as Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the February 25, 2023 presidential election, sought access to these records.
The United States District Court in the Northern District of Illinois ruled in favor of Atiku, instructing Chicago State University to release President Bola Tinubu’s academic records on Monday.
However, President Tinubu’s legal team argued that these documents were not relevant to Atiku’s appeal against Tinubu at the Supreme Court.
Earlier, Atiku had obtained an order from a US magistrate, Jeffrey Gilbert, directing CSU to provide all relevant and non-privileged documents related to Tinubu’s academic records within two days.
In response to Atiku’s requests, CSU provided copies of diplomas and documents.
They disclosed that while they couldn’t locate Tinubu’s original 1979 diploma, they did produce other relevant documents matching the format of Tinubu’s replacement diploma dated June 27, 1997.
Additionally, CSU presented documents certified by Jamar C. Orr, Esq., as requested by Atiku.
As of the time of this report, there has been no official reaction from the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate regarding the documents released by Chicago State University.
