The police have issued summonses to five officers in connection with a confrontation involving a motorist in the area of Ikorodu

Date:

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has called in five officers from the Lagos State Command for questioning regarding a confrontation they had with a motorist in the Ijede area of Ikorodu on Wednesday.

This action was confirmed by Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos Police, in an official statement.

The officers, who are part of the Area N Command in Ijede, Ikorodu, have been summoned to appear in Abuja for further inquiry and appropriate measures.

Hundeyin disclosed on a platform, previously known as Twitter, that preliminary findings indicate that the driver of a red Toyota Corolla with the license plate JJJ685GD was seen leaving a gas station, going against the flow of traffic.

The police officers attempted to halt the driver, but upon noticing them, the Corolla driver reversed into the gas station.

It is alleged that the scratches on the car and the cracks on the windshield occurred when the Corolla hit a parked trailer while in reverse.

The Lagos Police spokesman noted that the five officers found themselves in a tense situation as an angry crowd gathered, and in an effort to prevent further escalation, they left the scene.

Hundeyin mentioned that a comprehensive investigation is being initiated to determine the extent of the officers’ unprofessional behavior.

He urged the vehicle’s driver and any witnesses to provide valuable information through various channels, whether in person or electronically, to assist in the investigation.

Hundeyin assured the public that updates on the progress of the police’s investigation will be made available.
