Universities under investigation for fraudulent certificates are identified by NUC

Date:

The Federal Ministry of Education, last Tuesday, announced the suspension of evaluating and accrediting degree certificates from Benin and Togo, following an exposé by a Nigerian newspaper.

The investigation revealed a degree mill in Cotonou, where a reporter obtained a degree in six weeks and completed the mandatory one-year program of the National Youth Service Corps.

The National Universities Commission is actively working to eradicate fake universities in Nigeria, listing those under investigation.

The NUC warns against obtaining certificates from these institutions, as they won’t be recognized for NYSC, employment, or further studies.

Former Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, highlighted the challenge posed by illegal universities, stressing the government’s continuous crackdown. Presently, 58 illegal universities have been uncovered in Nigeria.
