Shettima heads the Federal Government delegation to the AFCON final

Date:

Vice President Kashim Shettima is set to lead a delegation from the Federal Government to the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) final this Sunday, where the Super Eagles will face hosts, Côte d’Ivoire, in their pursuit of continental glory.

Following his representation of President Bola Tinubu at the semifinals, where Nigeria emerged victorious against South Africa, Shettima is returning to Abidjan for the title decider.

In a statement released on Saturday by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, it was emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recognizes the unifying power of football.

Tinubu believes Shettima’s presence at the finals, accompanied by the delegation, underscores the government’s steadfast support for the Super Eagles and its commitment to their success.

The Federal Government is urging all Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to come together in support of the Super Eagles.

They are encouraged to raise their voices in support, creating a wave of national pride to propel the team to glory.

The statement notes that football, with its unifying force, plays a significant role in fostering national pride and unity.

After defeating South Africa 4-2 in penalties, the Super Eagles are vying for their fourth AFCON trophy since their last triumph in 2013.
