Six individuals, including four women and two men, have been brought in for questioning in connection with the alleged assault on a Nollywood actress

Date:

Four women and two men faced charges in a Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court, accused of assaulting and blackmailing the renowned Nollywood actress, Lizzy Anjorin-Lawal.

The police charged Qudus Jokogbola, Siri Olawale, Edu Shakirat, Fausat Mohammed, Kafayat Ahmed, and Opere Morenike with conspiracy, breach of peace, and causing bodily harm.

According to Inspector Samuel Isholla, the defendants and two others at large committed the alleged offenses on February 5, 2024, around 1:30 p.m. at Oba Akintoye Market, Lagos Island, Lagos State.

Counsel to the defendants, S. Ade Oshodi, and Ademola Olabiyi, announced their appearance for the defendants and nominal complainant’s lawyer, respectively.

Isholla informed the court that the defendants conspired and forcefully attacked Anjorin-Lawal, causing bodily injuries and a breach of public peace.

The prosecutor detailed that the charges against the defendants contravened sections 168(d), 170(b) 411, and 413(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, with Section 413(2) stipulating a two-year jail term for causing injury or harm.

Despite the not guilty pleas, Oshodi requested bail for his clients, emphasizing they were market men and women.

The prosecutor suggested bail be granted at the court’s discretion, with terms ensuring their court attendance.

Magistrate A.A Paul granted each defendant bail at N200,000, with one surety in a like sum. The sureties must be Lagos State residents with evidence of tax payment, among other conditions.

The defendants were ordered to be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services until they meet their bail terms.

The case was adjourned until March 11 for mention.
