Mo Abudu’s Elesin Oba, Anikulapo, Lockdown set to premiere on Netflix

Three top contents from Nigeria, Elesin Oba: The King’s Horseman, Anikulapo, and Lockdown, were recently revealed as part of the 11 exciting African content billed to run on Netflix for the last quarter of 2022.

The streaming giant presented a preview of what will be its programming for the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. A number of the African content are expected to start streaming on Netflix in August through December 2022.

In what was described as a content showcase themed ‘ See What’s Next Africa,’ Netflix brought together talent, filmmakers, and media from South Africa and Nigeria, to spotlight its increased investment in Africa’s rich heritage of storytelling through exciting new projects that span a diverse range of genres and formats that will be available in 190 countries.

From Mo Abudu’s Elesin Oba: The King’s Horseman, to Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo, and Moses Inwang’s Lockdown, the three series have been classified as best-in-class of exciting African content to stream on Netflix.

Other content includes Ludik, The Brave Ones, Kings of Queenstown, Office Invasion, The Razz Guy, Wild is The Wind, Disconnect 2, Volume, Nairobi Half Life, Young Famous and African 2, Blood & Water, How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower, and iNumber Number: Fool’s Gold.
Speaking on the move, Tendeka Matatu, Director of Local Language Films in Africa said, “We are working with top talent and filmmakers as well as exciting emerging voices from the continent. We are thrilled to expand our partnerships with Africa’s talented storytellers. With an ever-growing slate of series, movies, and licensed content across a rich variety of best-in-class content across genres, we want to give our members more moments to share the joy that comes from being immersed in great stories made in Africa, to be watched by the world.”
