Multichoice Suspends BBNaija Broadcast Over Power Glitch

Date:

Multichoice Nigeria, the organisers of the popular Big Brother Naija reality show, has announced the temporary suspension of the programme’s transmission following a power-related disruption.

The company disclosed the development in a statement released on Friday evening, explaining that a technical fault linked to a power challenge had interrupted live coverage of the show.

“Due to a power glitch, transmission of the Big Brother Naija reality show has been temporarily suspended. Our technical team is working to restore the broadcast in the shortest possible time,” the statement read in part.

While the organisers did not provide details on the exact cause of the disruption, they assured viewers that efforts were ongoing to ensure the swift resumption of the 24-hour broadcast.

Big Brother Naija, currently in its ninth season, remains one of Nigeria’s most watched reality shows, drawing millions of viewers across Africa. The temporary blackout has already sparked conversations among fans on social media, with many expressing concern and anticipation for the restoration of live transmission.

Fans React as BBNaija Broadcast Goes Dark

Viewers of the Big Brother Naija reality show took to social media on Friday night to express mixed reactions after Multichoice temporarily suspended transmission due to a power glitch.

The unexpected blackout disrupted live coverage of Season 9, leaving millions of fans without access to house updates. Within minutes of the announcement, hashtags such as #BBNaijaBlackout, #BringBackBBNaija, and #PowerGlitch began trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Some fans voiced frustration, noting that the show thrives on real-time drama.

“This is not the kind of suspense we signed up for. Fix it fast!” one user posted.

Others made light of the situation with memes comparing the blackout to dramatic evictions.

“Big Brother just evicted NEPA,” another joked.

Meanwhile, a few viewers praised Multichoice for being transparent about the challenge, rather than leaving fans in the dark with no official statement.

On Instagram, conversations spilled into fan pages where followers speculated about what might be happening in the house during the downtime.

Multichoice has assured the public that the disruption is temporary and technicians are working to restore the feed.

For now, BBNaija’s most loyal audience is waiting anxiously—and loudly—for the cameras to come back on.
