Award-winning filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele surprised audiences at the FilmOne Exhibitors Showcase 2025 with a heartfelt revelation about the making of her upcoming film, Behind The Scenes.
Speaking during the event, Akindele disclosed that Behind The Scenes was not the movie she initially intended to produce. Her original plan, she explained, was to create a sequel to her blockbuster hit, A Tribe Called Judah. Production discussions, scripts, and potential partnerships for A Tribe Called Judah Part 2 were already in progress when an unexpected spiritual message changed her direction.
According to Akindele, she felt a strong prompting from the Spirit of God to pause the sequel. Despite reviewing four different scripts and engaging in multiple partnership talks, she said the same message persisted:
> “You’re wasting your time. You will shoot this film.”
That film, she later realized, was Behind The Scenes.
Describing the project, Akindele said it is deeply personal and reflective, capturing struggles and life lessons that resonate with many people. She emphasized that the story serves as a wake-up call, blending emotional depth with powerful storytelling that speaks to perseverance, purpose, and faith.
> “This film mirrors what so many of us go through — moments of doubt, redirection, and finding meaning in unexpected places,” she shared.
After months of intense production, Akindele confirmed that Behind The Scenes is complete and will officially premiere this December.
The announcement has generated widespread excitement within the Nollywood community and among fans, many eager to see how Akindele’s latest creative journey unfolds. Known for her cinematic hits such as Battle on Buka Street and A Tribe Called Judah, the filmmaker’s upcoming release is already being hailed as one of the most anticipated Nigerian films of 2025.
