The maiden edition of Emiralty Connect 1.0, themed “Scar2Shine”, successfully held at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, bringing together influential personalities across media, governance, entrepreneurship, leadership and the creative industry for an inspiring day of conversations, networking and transformation.

Convened by media executive Idris Olakunle Bello under the Emiralty Africa platform, the event served as a gathering point for accomplished professionals, emerging entrepreneurs, creatives and public leaders who shared practical experiences on resilience, growth, public service and success despite personal and professional struggles.
The atmosphere at the venue reflected the central message of the conference. From the opening session, attendees were drawn into honest conversations around challenges, setbacks, persistence and the courage required to build meaningful careers and institutions in Nigeria’s demanding social and economic climate.

The event was chaired by veteran Nollywood icon Adebayo Salami, who served as Chairman of the Day. His presence added prestige and cultural significance to the conference as he spoke on consistency, discipline and the importance of sustaining excellence across generations.

Delivering the keynote address was respected business leader and public figure, Otunba Kazeem Odeyeyiwa, whose speech centred on resilience, personal growth, leadership responsibility and the importance of transforming difficult life experiences into opportunities for impact and influence. The event was hosted by celebrated actor and media personality Adeniyi Johnson alongside renowned comedian and master of ceremonies Abegunde Olamilekan, popularly known as Dr Smile, whose energy and professionalism maintained an engaging atmosphere throughout the conference.
One of the major highlights of the event was the Leadership and Governance panel session titled:
“The Role of Media on Policies, People and the Burden of Public Service.”

Another engaging session focused on business development and entrepreneurship under the topic:
“The Media Advantage in Business Growth.”
This panel explored how media visibility, digital storytelling and strategic branding continue to shape modern businesses and consumer trust. Business leaders including Alhaji Ahmad Lawal of Lahmad Concepts, Dr. Amb. Funke Kehinde of Brilliant Concepts Realty, and Otunba Adegboyega Ajala Shuaib of Abode Care Nigeria Limited shared practical insights on building sustainable businesses through consistency, reputation and media engagement.

The business session was moderated by technology entrepreneur and Optimus AI Labs co-founder, Lanre Basanta, who guided discussions around innovation, digital positioning and the future of business communication in Africa.

The creative industry panel session also delivered one of the most emotionally resonant moments of the conference. Themed:
“Creativity, Visibility and the Media Spotlight,”
the session examined the realities of navigating fame, relevance, criticism and growth within Nigeria’s entertainment and creative ecosystem.
Panelists including Nollywood stars Mercy Aigbe and Bukky Wright, alongside Alhaji Abdul Rasak Ceo Coporate Pictures, and Libra TV CEO, Alhaji Wasiudeen Olalekan, spoke candidly about their personal journeys, industry pressures, sacrifices and the discipline required to remain relevant over the years.

The session was moderated by Tomi Falade, Life Editor at Independent Newspapers, who steered conversations around media evolution, audience culture and the emotional realities behind public success.

The event also attracted several distinguished guests and dignitaries including Prince Fuhad Oloto, Hon. Moshood Detayo, Muhydeen Oladapo Lala, Dr. Amb. Farida Prevail Ahmed who delivers a powerful speech and presentation of award of excellence to the convener behind the vision behind Emiralty Connect and its focus on impactful conversations capable of inspiring positive societal change.
Throughout the event, speakers repeatedly returned to the conference theme “Scar2Shine,” describing it as a powerful reminder that many successful individuals carry unseen scars shaped by rejection, hardship, criticism, failure and sacrifice. Attendees described the conference as deeply relatable, motivational and intellectually refreshing.
