As the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Maame Efua Houadjeto has brought renewed energy and purpose to Ghana’s tourism sector. Drawing on her extensive background in tourism, hospitality, event management, communications, and destination marketing, she is leading a new era focused on innovation, collaboration, and sustainable tourism growth.

Since assuming office in 2025, she has championed initiatives that strengthen Ghana’s position as a premier tourism destination by enhancing destination marketing, promoting cultural tourism, expanding international partnerships, and supporting domestic tourism experiences. Under her leadership, the Ghana Tourism Authority has continued to build on flagship initiatives such as December in Ghana, Heritage Month, culinary tourism activations, and diaspora engagement while strengthening Ghana’s presence on major international tourism platforms.

Beyond destination promotion, Maame Efua has prioritized stronger collaboration between government, tourism operators, hospitality businesses, creatives, investors, and local communities. Her leadership reflects a modern understanding that tourism extends beyond leisure—it is a driver of economic development, cultural preservation, entrepreneurship, and international influence.

Before joining the Ghana Tourism Authority, she built a distinguished career in hospitality, travel, tourism, event production, and marketing communications. As the founder of Image Consortium Group and a former hotel executive, she developed a reputation for delivering high-impact tourism and event projects, giving her practical industry experience that now informs her leadership of Ghana’s national tourism agenda.

Her impact has also earned international recognition. She was honored as a Global Cultural Ambassador and has received accolades for her leadership in promoting Ghana’s culture and tourism globally, reflecting the growing international visibility of Ghana’s tourism sector under her stewardship.
