Rihanna to perform “Black Panther” at the Oscars

Date:

Pop star Rihanna will perform at the Oscars next month, organizers announced on Thursday.

This was just a few weeks after she returned to her highly anticipated Super Bowl and found herself pregnant.

The Barbados-born singer will perform her Oscar-nominated song “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever After at the Hollywood Movie Industry Awards.

The song competes with Lady Gaga’s “Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick” and Indian crowd favorite “Naatu Naatu” RRR. Rihanna, 35, didn’t play live for seven years before hitting a career-high at the NFL’s flagship halftime tournament earlier this month.

Instead, she’s focused on raising her first child, a son born in May, with the successful makeup, lingerie and high fashion brands that have made her a billionaire.

Her newborn baby dominated Super Bowl conversations, and shortly after the performance, a rep for the singer confirmed that Rihanna was pregnant with her second child. But fans who had been waiting years for the album that haunted them were disappointed.

Lift Me Up is Rihanna’s first Oscar nomination and has won nine Grammy Awards with eight multi-platinum albums. The 95th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will take place on March 12 at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
