A fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claims one life, leaving seven others injured

Date:

An as-yet-unidentified individual tragically lost their life on Sunday in a collision involving 16 people at the Magboro Bus Stop along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

This incident transpired around 7.50 am.

Seven additional passengers sustained injuries during the accident.

The collision involved two vehicles: a Mercedes Benz ML350 with the license plate AKD424HH and a Volkswagen commercial bus with the license plate KSF934YA.

According to an eyewitness named Opeyemi Lateef, the accident occurred when the Mercedes Benz driver tried to avoid colliding with a pedestrian attempting to cross the road.

This evasive action resulted in a loss of control, leading to the collision with the parked commercial bus at the bus stop.

Another eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, attributed the accident to a combination of indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles at the bus stop and excessive speeding.

They shared that the Benz driver’s attempt to avoid the pedestrian ultimately led to the loss of control and the subsequent collision.

When contacted, Florence Okpe, the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, confirmed the accident and identified speeding as the primary cause.

She stated that the accident occurred at approximately 7.50 am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Magboro Bus Stop, heading towards Lagos.

Sixteen individuals, comprising eight males and eight females, were involved in the incident.

Unfortunately, one person lost their life, and seven others sustained injuries.

The vehicles involved were a Volkswagen yellow bus with the license plate KSF934YA and a Mercedes Benz ML350 with the license plate AKD424HH.

Okpe emphasized the hazardous practice of indiscriminate parking of commercial vehicles along highways, which she identified as a major contributing factor to accidents at the Magboro Bus Stop.
