Following Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Cape Verde at the African Cup of Nations on Sunday, a passionate Ghanaian supporter reportedly confronted manager Chris Hughton with a barrage of verbal attacks.
According to local media via The Mirror, the incident occurred at the team’s hotel in the Ivory Coast, where the irate fan directed abuse at the 65-year-old Hughton.
Subsequently, the police intervened, though conflicting reports exist regarding whether the assailant was arrested or simply removed from the vicinity.
Hughton, appointed as Ghana’s manager in February 2023, faced his most challenging day in charge as Cape Verde’s Garry Rodrigues secured a dramatic victory in the 92nd minute.
Despite a goal ruled out for offside and center-back Alexander Djiku’s header leveling the score, Cape Verde emerged victorious, securing the top spot in Group B after Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Mozambique.
