A military tribunal has handed down a seven-year prison sentence to a high-ranking general through a court-martial proceeding

A Nigerian Army Special Court-martial convened in Abuja on Tuesday, handed down a seven-year prison sentence to Maj. Gen. Umaru Mohammed, the former Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Properties Limited.

In addition to the prison term, the court issued a directive for him to reimburse $2,178,900 and N1.65 billion to the Army properties and NAPL.

Mohammed faced a trial on 18 charges related to offenses such as forgery, misappropriation of funds, and conspiracy, among others.

Despite maintaining his innocence throughout the proceedings, the court ultimately found him guilty on 14 of the charges.
