The renowned cable channel brand Africa Magic, under the umbrella of MultiChoice, is gearing up to unveil a fresh lineup of indigenous drama series this September.
Within this month, viewers can anticipate the debut of three distinct indigenous series: ‘Apo,’ a Yoruba drama series; ‘Iwe,’ an Igbo series; and ‘Kariya,’ a Hausa drama series.
‘Apo (Bag)’ is a 26-episode series set in a rural town in Nigeria’s southwestern region.
It weaves a narrative around themes of poverty, avarice, familial discord, sibling rivalry, marital conflicts, and divorce, all intertwined with a mysterious bag containing money, charms, and a firearm discovered by six underprivileged tenants of Mr. Olanrewaju.
In contrast, ‘Iwe (Anger)’ unfolds over 80 episodes and is set in pre-colonial Igbo territory.
It narrates the tale of two once-fraternal kingdoms now divided by decades of resentment, envy, and avarice.
Meanwhile, ‘Kariya (Sanctuary)’ spans 26 episodes and revolves around a couple on the brink of divorce whose home is unexpectedly invaded by armed robbers fleeing from the police.
To survive the harrowing night, they must present a united front.
Discussing these new shows, Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, emphasized that these series are a continuation of MultiChoice’s commitment to sharing distinctive African narratives that resonate with the realities of Nigerian and African audiences.
She expressed, “Africa Magic is dedicated to recounting stories that mirror the everyday experiences of Africans, spotlighting our cultural intricacies, values, challenges, and triumphs.”
