Atiku claims that Tinubu owes him a debt of gratitude, asserting that he has never betrayed him

Date:

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, speaking on Thursday, refuted claims of betraying President Bola Tinubu during their 2007 political alliance.

Instead, he asserted that he stood up against President Olusegun Obasanjo at the time to prevent Lagos State from falling to the political upheaval of 2003.

At a press briefing in Abuja, Atiku, the People’s Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, emphasized that he defended Lagos from Obasanjo’s influence in 2003.

He firmly denied betraying Tinubu, stating, “So, who is indebted to whom? Is it me or Bola Ahmed Tinubu? I vehemently deny that I stabbed Tinubu in the back.

Atiku also clarified that his political separation from Tinubu occurred when Tinubu wanted to be his running mate in 2007, but Atiku objected to a Muslim-Muslim ticket, which led to their parting ways.
