“Awoniyi matches Salah’s goal record as Forest suffers defeat.”

Date:

Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi found the back of the net for the seventh consecutive time in the Premier League, as Nottingham Forest faced a 3-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Awoniyi, the former Union Berlin forward, has now become the first Forest player to achieve the remarkable feat of scoring in seven consecutive games.

He joins the ranks of Mohammed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor as the only Africans who have accomplished this impressive record.

Awoniyi displayed his prowess early in the match, securing Forest’s lead with a brilliantly executed 86th-second goal, followed closely by Willy Boly’s free-kick goal.

In an unprecedented turn of events, Manchester United found themselves trailing by two goals within the first four minutes of a Premier League match.

However, their resilience shone through as Christian Eriksen managed to pull one back with a goal from a Marcus Rashford cross.

Casemiro squandered a golden opportunity to level the playing field but quickly made amends shortly after halftime, capitalizing on a cleverly executed free-kick routine to find the back of the net.

Worrall’s dismissal, resulting from denying Fernandes a clear goalscoring chance, injected United with renewed energy.

The skipper soon sealed their victory by converting a penalty kick after Danilo was deemed to have brought down Rashford.

This match marked United’s first appearance since the agreement on Mason Greenwood’s departure from Old Trafford.

Injuries led Mason Mount and Luke Shaw to watch from the directors’ box.

The lineup saw three changes against a dynamic Forest side that launched a swift and aggressive counter-attack.

Following an early Antony shot, a corner led to a clearance by Steve Cooper’s men, and Morgan Gibbs-White’s header set the stage.

Awoniyi displayed exceptional determination and strength, outplaying Rashford to gain possession in his own half.

With remarkable composure under pressure, Awoniyi evaded Andre Onana, ultimately slotting the ball past him to find the back of the net.
