Blaze ravages Kwara, causing a loss of property valued at N23.8 million

A fire erupted on Saturday in the Alfa Yahaya area of Ilorin, Kwara State, resulting in the destruction of property valued at N23.8 million, including drugs, furniture, and assorted drinks.

The incident affected seven flats and two shops at number 5, Ado compound.

Three flats were consumed by the flames, while the two shops suffered complete destruction of their contents.

Hassan Adekunle, the Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, highlighting the effective efforts of the fire service in minimizing the damage. Adekunle attributed the cause of the fire to a power surge in the area.

He reported that the fire service successfully saved an estimated property value of N47.4 million, while N23.8 million worth of property was lost.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the Director of Kwara State Fire Service, emphasized the importance of citizens cultivating the habit of turning off electrical appliances before bedtime to prevent fire outbreaks in homes and offices, reducing the risk significantly.
