Ranks Africa: Labake Olododo carries a powerful message. What inspired you to bring this story to life?

Iyabo Ojo: Thank you so much; I appreciate it. God bless you.

The strength that many women carry inspired me. I’ve had this story in mind for a long time, but I put it aside because I knew the timing wasn’t right. However, after watching The Woman King, I felt a renewed drive. I thought, Oh, I have a script similar to this—maybe now is the right time to bring it to life. So, I decided to go for it.

At its core, the key message I want to share is that revenge is never the answer. There’s so much more to this story, but I want people to experience it for themselves. Above all, the most important lesson is that love often finds us in the most unexpected places, and no matter what happens, revenge is never the solution.

Ranks Africa: What inspired your casting choices for Labake Olododo?

Iyabo Ojo: I have worked with almost all of the cast members before, if not all. When casting, I focused on finding the perfect fit for each role, ensuring that every actor would bring their character to life in a powerful and authentic way. I knew exactly how each person would interpret their role, and that made the casting process very intentional.

A Message for Women Everywhere

Ranks Africa: As a woman who has broken boundaries, what message do you have for women everywhere, especially in celebration of Women’s Month?

Iyabo Ojo: My advice for women is simple but powerful: stay focused, stay inspired, and never lose courage or hope.

For those who are mothers, stand strong for your children. Guide them in the right direction, teach them well, and encourage them. Be there for them—not just as a parent but as a friend. Never allow them to carry burdens, especially ones you created.

And to all women out there, I love you, and I pray that you continue to excel in all that you do.

The AFCON 2025 campaign merchandise, designed by Topher, embodies the core values of unwavering belief, national pride, and the spirit of champions.

In a statement, Topher expressed his excitement about the partnership, saying, “This is a defining moment, a chance to blend my passion with the electrifying spirit of African football. Among other African countries, Nigeria, South Africa, and Ghana are not listed in the United States of America’s (USA) new visa waiver programme for 2025 as the country introduces policy updates on permit privilege eligibility and others.

The US Department of State recently announced the 2025 visa waiver programme (VWP) update, featuring a revised list of eligible countries and new travel policies.

This update simplifies visa-free entry into the United States for millions of people worldwide, making business, tourism, and transit travel more accessible.

However, as the new VWP brings exciting opportunities for international travellers from many countries, some others are regretting the new development.

The 2025 visa waiver programme includes 40 countries whose citizens can now travel to the United States without a visa.

This year, Romania has joined the list as a new entrant. However, Taiwan and the United Kingdom remain eligible under specific conditions.

The list has Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, and Israel.

Others include Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Japan, Slovenia, Latvia, South Korea, Liechtenstein, Spain, Lithuania, Sweden, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Qatar, others.

What is the US visa waiver programme means
The visa waiver programme allows travellers from eligible countries to visit the United States without a visa for up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.

Instead of going through a lengthy visa process, eligible individuals can apply for an electronic system for travel authorisation (ESTA) before departure.

What changed in the 2025 VWP
While most of the VWP list remains unchanged, adding Romania marks a significant update. The U.S. has also focused on enhancing security checks and prioritising countries with strong diplomatic ties and border security standards.

Nevertheless, Romania, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom are excluded from the U.S. visa and interview waiver programme for 2025.

Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price To N825

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has officially announced a reduction in the ex-depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by N65, effective from 27th February 2025.

The new price, N825 per litre, marks the second price reduction in February 2025, following an earlier drop of N60 earlier this month.

The move is part of the refinery’s ongoing commitment to easing the financial burden on Nigerians and supporting the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially as the Ramadan season approaches.

The price reduction aims to provide much-needed relief to citizens ahead of the holy month, aligning with the government’s goal of alleviating the cost of living for Nigerians.

In addition to the February reductions, Dangote Petroleum Refinery had also decreased PMS prices during the 2024 yuletide period, lowering the cost from N970 to N899.50 per litre, further contributing to stabilizing the nation’s economy and providing relief during the festive season.

The new retail prices of Dangote petrol at partner stations will be as follows: at MRS Holdings stations, the price will be N860 in Lagos, N870 in the South-West, N880 in the North, and N890 in the South-South and South-East.

At AP (Ardova Petroleum) and Heyden stations, the price will be N865 in Lagos, N875 in the South-West, N885 in the North, and N895 in the South-South and South-East.

Dangote Petroleum Refinery assured Nigerians of a consistent supply of high-quality petrol, with enough reserves to meet domestic demand and contribute to the nation’s foreign exchange earnings.

The company is calling on marketers to ensure that this price relief reaches consumers, supporting President Tinubu’s vision of making Nigeria self-sufficient in refined petroleum products.

Police restore Obasa’s security details, Withdraw Meranda’s as ex-Lagos speaker set for return

Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa who was impeached as speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly on January 13, 2025, is set to return.

Daily Trust understands that his security details have been restored just as those of Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, have been withdrawn.

Meranda was Obasa’s deputy before the impeachment. After his removal, the house unanimously elected Meranda, making her the first female to occupy the position in the history of the state.

Though she’s yet to officially resign as the Speaker of the House, her fate was reportedly sealed over the weekend by key All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders who intervened in the crisis rocking the House of Assembly.

Former National Chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande, former Governor of Osun State, Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Muiz Banire and members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) and some of the lawmakers had met over the weekend to find a resolution to the crisis.

It was at the meeting that the fate of Meranda was sealed as she was reportedly asked to vacate her seat.

There are indications that Obasa might return as the Speaker as following the resolutions reached by the leaders which largely favoured Obasa’s return.

“In truth, what they said was that Obasa’s removal was illegal and the lawmakers were directed at the meeting to go and return him,” sources familiar with the matter had said.

It was not clear yet when the House would reconvene to effect the expected changes.

Meranda had adjourned plenary indefinitely two weeks ago when there was commotion in the assembly as a result of invasion by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
