After the unveiling of nominations for the 66th Grammy Awards on Friday, Nigerian music luminaries seized the spotlight across various categories.
Grammy-winner Burna Boy secured an impressive four nominations, while Davido earned recognition with three nominations, marking his inaugural Grammy nomination.
Newcomers Asake, Olamide, and Ayra Starr celebrated their Grammy nomination debuts, each receiving one nomination, as revealed on the official Grammy Awards website.
Notable contenders in the newly introduced category, Best African Music Performance, include Asake and Olamide’s ‘Amapiano,’ Burna Boy’s ‘City Boys,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Davido and Musa Keys’ ‘Unavailable,’ and Tyla’s ‘Water.’
Burna Boy’s additional nominations encompass ‘Sitting On Top of the World’ featuring 21 Savage for Best Melodic Rap, ‘I Told Them’ for Best Global Music Album, and ‘Alone’ for Best Global Music Performance. Likewise, Davido’s supplementary nominations feature ‘Timeless’ for Best Global Music Album and ‘Feel’ for Best Global Music Performance.
