AKAPO OLUREMI JOSHUA: A RENAISSANCE MAN IN THE WORLD OF THEATRE
In this exclusive interview with RankaAfrica, we sit down with the multi-talented Akapo Oluremi Joshua, a seasoned artist with expertise in drumming, choreography, dance, singing, acting, and writing.
Can you tell us about your journey into the world of theatre and the arts?
My artistic journey began in the vibrant streets of Ajegunle, Lagos State, where I was first exposed to acting, drumming, and singing through my local C&S church. I later joined the professional theatre company “Generation Next,” now known as Pacesetters Art Company, where I rose to the role of assistant director.
You’ve had the privilege of working with industry veterans like Niji Akanni, Isioma Williams, and the late Sir Lari Williams. How have these collaborations shaped your career?
Working with these legends has been a profound learning experience. They brought immense expertise, passion, and creativity to every project. These collaborations have been pivotal in shaping my career and continually inspire me to strive for excellence in my work.
You’re deeply involved in mentoring young talent through initiatives like ISOILAJ/SOS Children’s Village Performing Troupe. Why is nurturing young artists so important to you?
I believe the future of the arts lies in the hands of young people. Mentoring young talent is my way of giving back and ensuring the continuity of excellence in the industry.
As the founder of G7th Theatre and Media Company, what is your vision for the future of Nigerian theatre?
Our mission is to tell impactful stories and create innovative productions that resonate with audiences while inspiring the next generation of artists. We aim to push the boundaries of creativity in theatre, music, and dance.
What advice would you give to aspiring artists looking to make a name for themselves in the industry?
My advice would be to stay true to their artistic vision, be dedicated to their craft, and always be open to learning and growth.
