The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) has clarified that recent changes in the pump price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) were not directed by the Federal Government but implemented by private operators in the sector.
In a statement released on Thursday, PCNGI explained that the adjustment in pump prices falls within the commercial discretion of operators who source, distribute, and retail CNG. It stressed that the Federal Government has not issued any directive mandating price increases or changes.
The initiative noted that as part of the ongoing transition to cleaner and cheaper energy, market forces and the operational costs of private companies play a key role in determining CNG retail prices.
PCNGI reiterated government’s commitment to expanding CNG infrastructure nationwide to ensure affordability and accessibility for motorists. It added that while pricing remains a private-sector function, regulatory oversight continues to safeguard consumer interest.
The clarification comes amid public concerns over the recent pump price adjustments, with some motorists assuming government involvement in the changes.
