Funke Akindele: A Journey from Stardom to Entrepreneurial Success

Funke Akindele, born on August 24, 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, attended Grace Children Schools, Gbagada, and Lagos State Model College, Igbo-kuta for primary and secondary education.

She holds an OND in Mass Communication from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic and a Law degree from the University of Lagos.

After marrying Adeola Kehinde Oloyede in May 2012 (divorcing in July 2013) and later remarrying JJC Skillz in May 2016, Funke, despite being a trained lawyer, pursued a career in acting.

Her journey to stardom began with the TV series “I Need to Know” (1998-2002), sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund.

Funke Akindele, a prominent figure in Nollywood, has written, produced, and acted in numerous successful movies, including hits like “Maami,” “Omo Ghetto,” and “A Trip to Jamaica.” Her breakthrough came with “Jenifa,” inspiring the popular TV series “Jenifa’s Diary.”

Beyond acting, she’s a successful entrepreneur, owning Scene One School of Drama and being the CEO of Scene One Production, a content production company.

She also has endorsement deals with brands like Lagos State Inland Revenue Service, Iroko TV, Vitafoam, and more.

In August 2018, Funke made history with “A Tribe Called Judah,” earning 1 billion Naira in just three weeks, becoming the highest-grossing Nollywood director.

Released in December 2023, the film, featuring a star-studded cast, is a heartfelt comedy-drama about a single mother and her five sons facing financial hardship and devising a plan to rob a mall.
