Kunle Afod explains the reasons behind his celebration of veteran actors

Date:

Renowned actor Kunle Afod, known for his ongoing efforts to pay tribute to industry veterans, emphasizes that his motivation stems from a desire to honor their significant contributions and to bridge the gap between established figures and emerging talent.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, Afod shared, “I’ve been engaged in this practice for quite some time, although it wasn’t as widely publicized as it is now.

I believe our generation of actors serves as a crucial link connecting these veterans with the younger ones who may not be familiar with their legacy.

It was the pioneers who paved the way for the industry, and I want to ensure that their impact is recognized.”

He acknowledges the financial challenges faced by many veterans, pointing out that most do not receive royalties.

Afod underscores the importance of expressing gratitude and paying homage during a time when the industry continues to reap the benefits of their foundational work.

Contrary to misconceptions, he notes that the veterans he visits are often well-cared for by their families, but they miss the camaraderie of the industry and still have a strong desire to act.

Afod concludes by urging fellow industry professionals to involve veterans in projects, tapping into their wealth of experience.

In doing so, he envisions a collaborative effort that not only honors the past but also enriches the present and future of the film industry.
