Ladipo Market in Lagos engulfed by a midnight fire, resulting in significant property damage

Date:

The well-known Ladipo Pako Market located on Iganmu Road in Orile, Lagos, was engulfed in a devastating overnight blaze this past Tuesday.

Adeseye Margaret, the Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, has stated that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

She mentioned that more information regarding the cause will be disclosed once the ongoing mop-up operation is completed, which involves assessing the extent of the damage and associated costs.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties during the firefighting operation.

Adeseye reassured the public that additional details will be provided in due course.

Adeseye also confirmed that the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service successfully managed to extinguish the fierce overnight inferno.

The fire, which was first reported just 15 minutes into the new month, required a collaborative effort from firefighting crews from Sari Iganmu, Ajegunle, Ilupeju, and Bolade Stations of the Agency.

Additionally, support was provided by the Federal Fire Service and LASEMA, with the Nigerian Police Force providing security.

The market, which includes a sawmill and trades in building materials, witnessed the rapid spread of the fire due to the presence of highly flammable materials, such as inflammable wood polish.

The dry weather conditions also contributed to the fire’s intensity. Nevertheless, the competence of the firefighters helped bring the situation under control.
