Lagos Commissioner Unveils 2025 “Light Up Lagos” Festive Illumination Sponsored by Nigerian Breweries

Date:

Lagos State’s Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, has officially unveiled the 2025 edition of the Light Up Lagos Festive Illumination, an initiative aimed at beautifying the state and boosting tourism during the Yuletide season.

The event, sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc, took place on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Monument, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja. Representing the Commissioner, Mrs. Olajumoke James, Deputy Director in the Ministry, praised Nigerian Breweries for championing a project that merges aesthetics, culture, community engagement, and economic value.

In her keynote address, the Commissioner described the initiative as “a significant contribution to the creative and tourism landscape of Lagos State,” noting its alignment with the government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda to promote tourism, enhance social cohesion, and position Lagos as a global hub for culture, entertainment, and innovation.

Benson-Awoyinka explained that illuminating the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Monument and the entire Obafemi Awolowo Way not only creates a visually stunning display but also symbolizes unity, shared joy, and the vibrant spirit of Lagos residents.

She highlighted the inclusion of community engagement activities, including live performances, creative showcases, and youth-centered artistic expressions, which aim to stimulate local commerce, provide safe family entertainment, and deepen cultural appreciation across the state.

The Commissioner also commended Maltina, the flagship brand sponsoring this year’s activation, for demonstrating exemplary corporate social responsibility through its long-standing partnership with Lagos State. She emphasized that sustained public-private collaborations are key to expanding the state’s tourism economy.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting tourism, arts, and culture, Benson-Awoyinka encouraged residents to enjoy the festive celebrations responsibly and actively participate in the season’s events. On behalf of the Lagos State Government, she expressed appreciation to Nigerian Breweries for their continuous efforts in enhancing the aesthetics and cultural vibrancy of the state during the festive.
