Lagos issues a warning to religious institutions and entertainment venues, cautioning them about the detrimental effects of noise pollution

Date:

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has issued a plea to churches, mosques, nightclubs, bars, and event centers, urging them to comply with recommended sound levels in order to prevent noise pollution.

In a statement posted on LASEPA’s official platform, the agency emphasized that excessive noise represents a significant threat to the peace and well-being of local communities.

LASEPA stressed the importance of collective responsibility for the environment, calling on everyone to ensure that sound levels are kept within acceptable limits.

This, it stated, is a considerate gesture towards our neighborhoods, allowing us to enjoy our spaces without causing undue disturbance and fostering a quieter, more peaceful environment.

The agency also cited the relevant section of the law pertaining to noise pollution, which grants them authority to establish regulations related to noise standards for products or classes that emit noise capable of harming public health or welfare (Sub-section k), noise standards for products or classes marketed based on their noise-reduction effectiveness (Sub-section l), and regulations for noise pollution standards in various types of premises to mitigate the psychological and physiological impacts of noise on humans, as well as its effects on domestic animals, wildlife, and property (Sub-section m).
