Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer known as Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Aloba, has revealed that his ex-wife, who also happened to be Mohbad’s first stepmother, once gave him an ultimatum to choose between Mohbad and her.
Aloba shared this information while explaining the lyrics in Mohbad’s song, “Sorry.”
Aloba went on to provide more details about the situation, explaining that his relationship with his ex-wife was quite complicated.
He explained that when faced with the difficult choice, he chose to prioritize his son, Mohbad, over his ex-wife, which ultimately led to her leaving the family.
He recounted, “The stepmother once confronted me, saying, ‘Choose me or your son.’ I made the decision to stand by my son, Mohbad, and as a result, she decided to leave. We had been together for over seven years, having married around 2005.
The stepmother was against me sending Mohbad to school, and I chose to support my son, which led to her departure.”
Mohbad tragically passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, with his burial taking place the following day.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, but the Lagos State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the matter.
