On Tuesday night, the Lagos State Police Command officially revealed that Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, is currently in their custody to aid in the ongoing investigation into the tragic passing of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this development, stating, “Azeez Fashola, alias Naira Marley, has been detained for questioning and other investigative procedures.”
Earlier the same evening, Naira Marley himself announced his return to Lagos, Nigeria, with the intention of cooperating with the authorities in their ongoing inquiry.
He expressed his commitment to playing his part in seeking the truth and ensuring justice for Imole, as he affectionately referred to Mohbad.
In his own words, Naira Marley stated, “I want to inform you that I have just returned to Lagos, Nigeria, to assist the authorities in their ongoing investigation.
It is crucial that I contribute to this cause in honor of Imole. I will be meeting with the police, hoping that the truth will be unveiled and justice will be served.”
MohBad tragically passed away on September 12 at the age of 27.
The police had previously summoned both Naira Marley and the controversial music promoter Balongun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry (who is currently in police custody), for questioning regarding Mohbad’s untimely demise.
Last week, the police confirmed that the autopsy of Mohbad had been completed, with the results pending.
In an exclusive interview, Hundeyin disclosed, “The autopsy has been conducted, and we are awaiting the results.”
This development followed the exhumation of Mohbad’s remains by a joint team comprising the Nigeria Police Force and health officials.
Furthermore, the police have also apprehended the nurse responsible for administering the injection to the deceased singer before his tragic passing on Tuesday, September 12.
