Osun State imposes a 24-hour curfew on Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas in response to communal clashes

Date:

On Friday, the Osun State Government issued an immediate 24-hour curfew in the Ilobu and Ifon communities.

This directive, conveyed by Commissioner Kolapo Alimi in a statement, aims to prevent further deterioration of law and order in these areas.

Governor Ademola Adeleke imposed the curfew to quell the crisis and prevent more loss of life and property.

The conflict that led to this curfew, reportedly sparked by an ongoing land dispute, resulted in the tragic deaths of eight individuals on Thursday.

In response, Governor Adeleke, as the Chief Security Officer of the State, has taken control of the disputed lands/areas under his executive authority.

The government has also made it clear that anyone or any group seen on these disputed lands/areas will face legal consequences as determined by the Osun State government.

As part of strict compliance with the curfew, human and vehicular movements in the affected areas will be restricted until further notice from the State Governor and Chief Security Officer.

To ensure lasting peace, a Joint Security Task Force comprising the Nigerian Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps will conduct 24-hour surveillance in these communities.

The government’s top priority is to safeguard the lives and properties of the people in Orolu and Irepodun local governments, as well as the entire Osun State.

They emphasize their commitment to maintaining peace and order and express condolences to the families affected by the recent crisis.
