Uche Jombo highlights that women exert double the effort to showcase their capabilities

Date:

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Uche Jombo, sheds light on the formidable challenges that women encounter as they strive to become successful trailblazers and maintain relevance in the industry.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the renowned actress emphasized the tenacity of women, stating, “Women are inherently serious-minded individuals.”

Reflecting on her journey, she highlighted the persistence required, recounting how some male colleagues who started producing movies simultaneously eventually shifted focus, whereas she remained dedicated to filmmaking.

When questioned about the extra effort women often invest in proving themselves in Nollywood, Jombo attributed it to the industry’s initial status as a “boys club.”

She shared her own experience, noting that it took time for women to be taken seriously as film producers.

The turning point, she mentioned, was her film ‘Damaged,’ which gained recognition and credibility.

Discussing her latest project, ‘Onyeegwu,’ which premiered at the Africa International Film Festival, Uche Jombo expressed her passion for football and film.

Describing the film as a long-desired story, she highlighted the significant journey involved in bringing ‘Onyeegwu’ to fruition.
