Former Sports and Youth Minister, Solomon Dalung, offered an explanation for sharing his academic records on social media. He did so to subject them to public scrutiny.
Dalung presented his 1990 West African Education Council certificate, Certificate of Call to the Bar, Bachelor of Law certificate, and Master of Laws certificates from the University of Jos on the X platform.
He declared himself an alumnus of the University of Jos, surrendering his academic records for public examination. Speaking on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily,” Dalung revealed that he voluntarily made his credentials available due to the widespread concern about academic qualifications in Nigeria.
He pointed out that the President of Nigeria and his political associates have faced legal battles regarding their credentials, which has raised suspicions about certificate authenticity in Nigeria.
Dalung emphasized that anyone dissatisfied with his records could take legal action to compel the University of Jos to release his transcript.
While expressing respect for President Bola Tinubu and denying any intention to mock him over the certificate issue, Dalung believed that the President’s team mishandled the situation, exacerbating the problem.
He expressed sympathy for the President’s predicament and criticized the handling of the certificate controversy by his advisors, suggesting that their actions were adding more burdens to the President.
Notably, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party had filed a lawsuit in a United States court, alleging that President Tinubu forged his Chicago State University certificate, which had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission before the February 25 presidential election.
