YORÙBÁ LITERATURE COMES ALIVE WITH YUSUF BALOGUN’S DEBUT NOVEL

Aremo Gemini’s debut Yorùbá novel interrogates misogyny, cultural taboo and revenge. Torn between upholding her core values and risking a night stand for her lover, Segilola makes a decision that alters the trajectory of her life. A mother’s love locks horn with crime at an interesting crossroad.
The author, Yusuf Alabi Balogun, going by the stage name ‘Aremo Gemini’ is an experimental performance poet, with a core focus in Yoruba arts and culture. Recipient of Horn of Afroclassical Merit Award for excellence in the propagation of arts and culture (2018), his art is guided by so many drives, one of which is to sell out O² Arena, London for Yoruba oral aral arts.
Reckoned as a slam streak ranging from Askifa Inaugural Poetry Slam to Wordaholics Poetry Slam 2.0, Obalende Inaugural Poetry Slam, the first runner up of SoS Poetry Slam 3.0 and the first Runner Up for Grooming Talent Hunt 2020. Doubling as the winner of Quramo Writing Festival 2.0, Former publicity officer for Poets in Nigeria, his craft have received successful acceptance and validation from media houses within Nigeria and outside the shore, including BBC Yoruba and The Folio Media (Nigerian exclusive affiliate to CNN). He has so many works to his credits, including a collaboration with South African artiste – Willemien Rust (Beginnes & Eindes) and Nigerian musical artiste, Temmie Ovwasa (Space Fuji).
