Zimbabwe: Incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa has been declared winner Zimbabwe Election

Date:

RECENT ELECTIONS IN AFRICA 🤦🤦

Zimbabwe: Incumbent Emmerson Mnangagwa has been declared winner with 52.6% of the vote, despite widespread criticism of the election’s irregularities by the opposition and international observers. Mnangagwa, nicknamed “the crocodile” for his ruthlessness, has been in power since 2017 when he succeeded Robert Mugabe. However, his ruling party, ZANU-PF, has been in power for 43 years and has faced accusations of rigging elections using state institutions. Observers also noted the arrest of election observers and police accusations of “unlawfully” tabulating results.

Gabon: Following an election marred by significant voting delays, the government on Saturday imposed a curfew and blocked internet access in the entire nation. Gabon held presidential, legislative, and local elections concurrently for the first time, causing concerns that electoral system changes might undermine the result’s legitimacy and potentially lead to unrest.

At times, one might wonder whether a military coup could be a more efficient option for Africa. Why spend billions on elections if the intention is to disregard the results? Redirect those funds toward more pressing needs instead! 🤦🤦
