Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has commended the Taraba State government for its greenhouse farming initiative, describing it as a model project that could strengthen food security and tackle hunger across Nigeria.
Speaking during a visit to the facility on Friday, Zulum expressed optimism that the project would contribute significantly to agricultural productivity, particularly in the North East, where food shortages and rising insecurity have disrupted traditional farming.
According to him, the Taraba Greenhouse demonstrates how innovation and technology can be harnessed to improve crop yields and ensure year-round production of vegetables and other perishables, regardless of seasonal challenges.
“This is a remarkable project that goes beyond Taraba State. It represents hope for the entire region, as it shows a pathway to sustainable food production and reduced dependence on imports. Such initiatives are critical to addressing the hunger crisis we face today,” Zulum said.
The greenhouse project, which integrates modern irrigation systems and climate-controlled farming, is expected to boost local food supply, create jobs, and support agribusiness value chains.
Observers note that the initiative aligns with national efforts to modernize agriculture and reduce Nigeria’s vulnerability to global food price shocks.
