Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre is now officially in post-production

Date:

Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo: Rise of the Spectre is now officially in post-production.

New cast members, including Lateef Adedimeji, Owobo Ogunde, and Gabriel Afolayan, will be taking on significant roles in the series.

While Netflix has not released any official plot details, director Kunle Afolayan has hinted that the series will explore the concept of reincarnation and the idea that our souls are connected across lifetimes, taking viewers on a journey through time.

It is worth noting that Kunle Afolayan signed a three-part deal with Netflix in 2021, which includes the commission of a historical drama (Swallow), a folklore fantasy (Anikulapo), and a character drama (Ijogbon).

According to our sources, Anikulapo was initially pitched as a series, but Netflix Africa executives believed it would be better suited as a feature-length title. However, after the title became a global success upon its release in September of last year, a series was immediately greenlit with Kunle serving as the showrunner and director.

The confirmed sequel, which will be a four-part limited series, will see the return of the key cast members and the introduction of new actors to the Netflix original franchise.

A release date is currently projected for 2023 or 2024.
