President Bola Tinubu has urged the Super Eagles to elevate their performance and excel in the upcoming stages of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cote dβIvoire.
Tinubu’s message was conveyed through the Minister of Sports, John Enoh, who engaged with the players via Zoom from Abuja on Wednesday night in Abidjan.
Enoh shared insights from his meeting with the President, highlighting Tinubu’s expectation for an improved performance, particularly expressing dissatisfaction with the team’s display during the group stage.
According to Enoh, the President acknowledged the team’s qualification but emphasized the need for continued progress until clinching the tournament.
Enoh quoted the President, stating, βI should tell the players that he wasnβt too impressed with the last match but he knows that now that they are off the group stages, they are going to impress him more.”
This indicates President Tinubu’s active interest in the matches and belief that the team will showcase better performance moving forward.
In response, team captain Ahmed Musa expressed gratitude to the sports minister and extended an invitation to the President to attend their live matches, believing it would serve as a motivational boost for the players.
The Super Eagles are set to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the last 16 of the tournament at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Saturday.
