The bond between Tiwa Savage and Sophia Momodu strengthened through the connection formed by their children

0

Sophia Momodu, the mother of Davido’s first child, Imade, and popular singer Tiwa Savage, are now regarded as close friends, evident from their social media posts and shared travels.

The roots of their friendship trace back to their children – Imade and Tiwa’s son, Jamil, who attended the same school.

Over the years, they’ve been spotted together at various events and trips, showcasing their strong bond.

Noteworthy moments include Tiwa supporting Sophia’s clothing line launch in 2018 and their joint attendance at the kiddies event ‘Nick Fest Mania’ in 2019.

Their camaraderie continued into 2022 with a heartwarming video of them celebrating Tiwa’s birthday, and later, they caught attention during a New Year’s trip to Ghana for the ‘Afrochella’ festival on a private jet with their children.

The discord within Davido’s family intensifies, leading to a further unraveling of things

The cracks in the relationship between Davido and his first child, Imade, have become apparent.

Despite Davido’s consistent display of love for Imade over the years, their bond seems to have taken a downward turn.

Imade, who used to celebrate her father on social media, remained silent in 2023, sparking speculations about a strained relationship.

Furthermore, the recent public dispute between Davido and Tiwa Savage, in which Tiwa accused Davido of harassment, raises concerns about the impact on the close friendship between their children, Imade and Jamil.

The once-enviable bond between Imade and Jamil, born just two months apart, had positively influenced their parents’ relationship in better times.

However, with the current tension, questions arise about potential repercussions on the children’s friendship.

Imade and Jamil’s connection goes beyond family dynamics, extending to their shared experiences at Parkview International Kindergarten and School in Lagos.

Despite occasional disagreements, their friendship has been a source of joy for many, showcased through adorable videos and joint participation in various activities.

The duo’s ability to celebrate each other on special occasions further highlights the depth of their bond.

Former employee alleges that TB Joshua arranged for infertile couples to swap partners

After the release of a contentious BBC documentary about Pastor Temitope Joshua, founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Debo Akinyemi, a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, shares his encounters working for the late pastor in an article published by ChurchTimes Nigeria.

Having closely associated with TB Joshua during his time as a journalist, I find it necessary to contribute to the ongoing controversy surrounding the recent expose by the BBC. The divergent opinions on the documentary reflect the divided views on whether he was a genuine man of God.

In my personal assessment, he appeared elusive – challenging to categorize due to his outward charm and inward suspicious behavior. Those who judged him solely on appearance and humility overlooked the biblical warning that outward appearances can be deceiving.

I first encountered him in the late ’90s when he was an itinerant white garment prophet, seeking publicity for his budding church. Later, our paths crossed again when he had become a controversial figure. Learning about his significant influence over a newspaper I joined, The Exclusive, raised concerns, yet I accepted the deputy editor role.

Observing the inner workings of TB Joshua’s church during frequent visits revealed peculiar practices. Meetings scheduled for evenings often commenced well past midnight, accompanied by lavish meals. While I refrained from partaking, colleagues enjoyed the generosity, receiving substantial cash envelopes regardless of the meeting’s significance.

Disciples, predominantly young women, led highly regulated lives, restricted from secular jobs and forbidden to possess money. Despite the controlled environment, they appeared content but lived in fear of the prophet and adhered to a strict code of secrecy.

A disturbing practice involved married couples swapping partners under the pretext of facilitating fertility. Couples, once childless, saw themselves matched with new spouses. TB Joshua even suggested this to a colleague seeking divine intervention.

Despite his seemingly meek persona, reports of TB Joshua’s frequent demonic anger emerged, underscoring the complexities within the church. While my time there was brief, the unsettling observations fueled suspicions. While I refrain from vilifying him posthumously, blind praise is not warranted.

The Bible advises testing spirits, and in assessing TB Joshua, there was an unsettling fog around him, leaving me with suspicions despite his likable demeanor.

The Naira experiences a sharp decline to 1082 against the US dollar, even with the CBN $2 billion debt repayment.

0

The Nigerian naira has experienced a 26.36% decline against the US dollar in the official Investor and Exporter window of the foreign exchange market since the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced clearing $2 billion as part of its backlog obligations.

Despite the CBN’s efforts to settle forward contract obligations and alleviate pressure on the exchange rate, the naira closed trading at N1082.32/$ on Wednesday, reflecting a 0.66% increase from the previous day.

This depreciation occurred even as the government received a $2.25 billion foreign exchange support facility from the African Import-Export Bank to address FX shortages.

The Chief Executive Officer of Economic Associates, Dr Ayo Teriba, attributed the naira’s volatility to inadequate foreign exchange supply, emphasizing the need for the government to attract investments to bolster reserves.

In contrast, the President of the Nigerian Economic Society, Prof. Adeola Adenikinju, expressed optimism about a more stable naira in 2024, citing factors such as local refinery operations, increased government revenue, and improved oil production.

However, Financial Derivatives Company predicts continued pressure on the naira in 2024, suggesting a potential fall to N1,350/$ before a recovery in Q2.

CBN announces the appointment of new executives to lead Union, Keystone, and Polaris banks

The Central Bank of Nigeria swiftly acted, dissolving the boards of Polaris, Union, and Keystone banks, appointing new executives to take charge.

In a statement by the acting Director of Corporate Communications, Sidi Hakama, Yetunde Oni became the CEO of Union Bank, while Mannir Ubali Ringim took the role of Executive Director.

Hassan Imam assumed the position of CEO for Keystone Bank, with Chioma Mang as Executive Director.

Lawal Mudathir Omokayode Akintola became CEO of Polaris Bank, and Chris Ofikulu took on the role of Executive Director.

The appointments, effective immediately, followed the apex bank’s decision to dismiss the entire boards of the banks for various infractions, ranging from regulatory non-compliance to corporate governance failure.

This action, rooted in the Financial Institutions Act of 2020, came after a special investigation recommended by President Bola Tinubu in July 2023, revealing alleged irregularities in the acquisition of banks by former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele through proxies.

The Naira depreciates to N1089 per dollar in the official Investors and Exporters (I&E) window

0

The Nigerian naira plummeted to N1089.51 against the dollar on Tuesday, marking a staggering 27.19% drop from its Monday closing rate of N856.57/$, as reported by the FMDQ Securities Exchange.

The day saw the naira fluctuating between highs of N1251/$ and lows of N720/$ before settling at N1089.51/$ at day’s end, with a total forex turnover of $97.45m.

This is the fourth instance of the naira closing below N1,000 on the official window, the second-lowest since the removal of the rate cap by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Despite the Central Bank’s efforts to clear matured foreign exchange obligations, including the disbursement of $2bn and disclosure of pending obligations of $7bn in forward contracts, the naira’s continuous decline persists.

This depreciation comes even amid government initiatives, such as a $2.25bn foreign exchange support facility received from the African Import-Export Bank, aimed at resolving FX shortages.

Economic experts, like Dr. Ayo Teriba, attribute the naira’s volatility to insufficient foreign exchange supply, dwindling reserves, and unmet government promises on investments.

Teriba expresses hope that government actions such as opening to investors and fast-tracking initiatives like taking the NNPC to the market could help alleviate the FX shortage, stabilize the naira, reduce inflation, and improve living standards.

He emphasizes the need to build reserves to fortify the FX market for sustained stability.

UN predicts a deterioration in global unemployment throughout 2024

0

The United Nations recently projected a slight global increase in the unemployment rate for 2024, estimating an additional two million job seekers.

This surge is anticipated to raise the global unemployment rate to 5.2%.

The report, outlined in the World Employment and Social Outlook Trends for 2024 by the UN’s International Labour Organisation, highlighted concerns about stagnant productivity, escalating inequalities, and the impact of inflation on disposable incomes.

The study not only examines labor market trends like unemployment and job creation but also delves into their broader social consequences.

Gilbert Houngbo, the ILO Chief, noted some encouraging data on growth and unemployment but emphasized growing labor market imbalances that are impeding progress towards social justice.

Houngbo stressed the necessity for coordinated efforts across countries and regions, underlining the importance of financial and technological resource allocation.

Additionally, the report underlined the persistent disparities between higher and lower-income countries in job opportunities, unemployment rates, and the prevalence of working poverty.

Despite a decline in poverty after 2020, the number of workers living in extreme and moderate poverty increased in 2023, signifying ongoing challenges in improving living standards.

The comprehensive response to these challenges, as per Houngbo, requires coordinated and mutually reinforcing policies and actions at both national and international levels, aligning with sustainable development goals and emphasizing the significance of labor rights and decent work in global transitions.
