FUO Student Slumps, Dies From Illicit Drug Overdose In Bayelsa

A 300 level student, Job Alawari-Kei, of the Department of Petroleum and Gas Engineering, Federal University, Otuoke (FUO), in Bayelsa State, had reportedly slumped and died after taking an overdose an Illicit drug locally known as Colos or Colarado.

A street lingo for synthetic cannabinoids, Colorado is a trending cocktail of psychotropic drugs commonly used by many Nigerians especially youths.

According to some students on campus, the illicit drug known as Colos is mainly taken among youths, especially those involved in Internet fraud popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo.

A student, who pleaded anonymity, said the deceased boy was celebrating a recent breakthrough on an Internet deal with his friends when he consumed an overdose of the illicit drug that killed him.

When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the remains of deceased has been deposited at the hospital for autopsy, while investigation has been launched into the matter.

Butswat said: “On May 3 2023 at about 2200 hours, one Job Alawari Kei ‘m’ 19, a student of the Petroleum and Gas Engineering Department of Federal University Otuoke, slumped after intake of illicit substances.

“He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. The corpse has been deposited at the Hospital for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing.

A fire broke out at the Nigerian air base in Abuja.

There was panic on Wednesday morning after fire gutted some buildings within the Nigerian Air Force Base along Airport Road in the Federal Capital Territory.

The cause of the fire outbreak that gutted the military base beside the Nigerian Correctional Service National Headquarters is unknown as of press time.

However, our correspondent can confirm the timely intervention of operatives of the Federal Fire Service attempting to put out the fire.

Responding to an inquiry about the incident during a telephone interview with our correspondent, the Head of Operations, FFF FCT, Amiola Adebayo, said firefighters are working hard to completely put out the fire.

Adebayo said, “The fire gutted part of the NAF Base, and our men are here putting out the fire, and we’re working hard to completely quench the fire.

“However, I can’t confirm the cause of the fire outbreak yet, but we’ll put out a statement once our findings are concluded.”

Award-winning Nigerian singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced a new series on global streaming giant, Netflix.

He made this known during an interview with the Dubai-based media house, Esquire Middle East.

According to Davido, the docuseries, titled “David,” focuses on his life. “It’s very, very big. This is the first time I’ve said anything about it, actually,” he added.

The hit singer who recently released a new, Timeless, said “I have a movie coming out in December with Netflix. It’s very, very big. This is the first time I’ve said anything about it, actually. It’s a documentary-a docu-series about my life called ‘David’. I shouldn’t be talking about this.”

The famed artiste went on to reveal that the series will premiere on Netflix this December.

Nigerian music star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made it to the Guinness World Book of Records.

The singer’s hit song, ‘Calm Down’ made history as the first No.1 Hit on The Official MENA Chart (the world’s first regional streaming chart).

This was made known in a post shared on the singer’s statistics Twitter account on Saturday.

The statement read, “Calm Down by #heisrema marks entry on the Guinness Book as it has won the First No.1 Hit on The Official MENA Chart (the world’s first regional streaming chart) Record.”

Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ debuted at No. 1 when the MENA Chart was launched by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry on November 29, 2022.

Rema was recognised for securing the first number 1 hit on the world’s first regional streaming chart and first-ever official chart in the Middle East and North Africa.

Britain’s King Charles III and Queen Camilla appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony with various members of the royal family following their coronation in London on Saturday, May 6.

Britain’s King Charles III was officially crowned Saturday in a magnificent and deeply religious ceremony at Westminster Abbey.

The coronation — a symbolic coming together of the monarchy, church and state — was attended by dignitaries from around the world, and thousands of people gathered in London to take in all the pageantry. It was Britain’s first coronation in 70 years.

After the two-hour ceremony, Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla — who was also crowned — traveled back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach, which has been used in every coronation since 1831. They later made an appearance on the palace balcony alongside other members of the royal family.

On Sunday, thousands of events are scheduled to take place across the country as part of the “Coronation Big Lunch,” while Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Take That will headline the “Coronation Concert” at Windsor Castle in the evening.

Charles instantly became King in September when his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, died at the age of 96. She was the longest-reigning monarch in British history.

A popular actor, Olutayo Amokade, aka Ijebu, has said that though he does not take his female fans for granted, he does not cross the line with them.

He told Sunday Scoop, “I cannot underestimate the level of support I get from my females fans. The most important thing is to entertain them, and that is what I will continue to do. I have a beautiful wife and amazing daughters who look up to me every day. If it is not business related, I don’t negotiate.”

The thespian also stated that when it comes to his finances, he does not bite more than he can chew. He added, “Maintaining my finances has to do with contentment. I have a wife and four kids. I thank God for constantly blessing me. I am always content with what I have, and I don’t bite more than I can chew.”

Delving into the early days of his career, Ijebu said, “The early years were rough and tough. Starting as a generator repairer and gradually getting to where I am today has been by God’s grace and my passion for the craft. My passion keeps me going.”

The entertainer also stated that he regards every day of his career as being memorable. He added, “I am always happy putting smiles on people’s faces. I usually try to make the next task more entertaining than the previous one.”
