Okonjo-Iweala dismisses widespread messages following encounter with Tinubu.

Date:

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, has strongly refuted the circulating messages falsely attributed to her.

She addressed these messages on her official Twitter account, clarifying that the claims of her being attacked after meeting with President Bola Tinubu are entirely untrue and malicious.

She emphasized that these fabricated statements are aimed at sowing discord among Nigerians and urged people to disregard them.

The misleading message that gained traction on social media alleged that she had been receiving negative and alarming communications following her meeting with President Tinubu.

The false message conveyed her apparent astonishment at the tone and content of these messages, expressing concerns about the state of Nigeria and her safety.

It also implied that she was seeking protection from a president she doesn’t recognize as her own, using her efforts to attract investors to Nigeria as a means of securing her family’s safety.

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala firmly asserted her stance that her visit to President Tinubu was motivated solely by her dedication to the betterment of Nigeria.

She highlighted her role in bringing multinational manufacturing companies to the country and lauded President Tinubu’s reforms, which she believed would lead to a more prosperous nation.

Despite clarifying that she is not a politician, she expressed her deep desire for the progress of Nigeria.

Regarding her meeting with President Tinubu, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala emphasized that her visit was not conducted in her capacity as Director-General of the WTO.

She shared that her discussions with the president centered on improving the well-being of disadvantaged Nigerians during challenging times.

She also mentioned the importance of collaborative efforts to establish a robust economy that generates employment opportunities, and she hinted at the potential support the World Trade Organisation could provide.

Overall, Dr. Okonjo-Iweala firmly dispelled the false messages circulating about her and reaffirmed her commitment to contributing positively to Nigeria’s advancement.
