The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, expressed his belief that President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election would be affirmed by the Supreme Court if his opponents decide to take the case to that level, during a reception held in his honor in his hometown, Iragbiji, Osun State, following his recent appointment as a minister.
Oyetola, the former Governor of Osun State, praised the organizers of the event and emphasized the importance of peaceful politics and unity for success.
Speaking in Yoruba, Oyetola congratulated President Tinubu on his Tribunal victory, asserting its permanence.
He also suggested that those challenging the result should wait for another four years, hinting at the futility of further legal action.
Regarding his plans as a Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Oyetola expressed a desire to unlock Nigeria’s fishing potential.
He reminisced about his own experiences fishing as a youth, highlighting that foreign entities currently dominate this sector and export fish to neighboring countries.
He recognized the untapped economic potential in fishing for Nigeria and expressed his determination to harness it for the country’s benefit, drawing inspiration from Western countries where riverside fishing is a thriving industry.
Oyetola concluded by stating his intention to transform the fishing sector in Nigeria to maximize economic gains.
