Babatunde Ojobaro (Mister Rain) Completes His Literary Hat Trick with Small Sense

Date:

The broadcaster, actor and event host adds a third book to his name, a funny and searching study of why people so often do the opposite of what they know.

Babatunde Ojobaro – Mr Rain

Babatunde Ojobaro has spent years in front of microphones, cameras and live audiences. Many Nigerians know him as “Mister Rain.”

He is now widely recognized as an author as well. With Small Sense, listed as available soon, he completes a trilogy that began with Unstoppable and continued with Village People. His own promotional line for the run is “A Literary Hatrick.”

Three Books, Three Angles

Each title looks at the human condition from a different side. Unstoppable, subtitled “walk through, win through,” speaks to resilience and the will to keep going. Village People, subtitled “shaping perspectives,” turns to the way people see the world and one another.

Small Sense, which carries the tags observational humour, human behaviour and practical wisdom, turns the lens on everyday choices and the odd habits that surround them.

The Idea Behind Small Sense

The book rests on one simple observation. Most adults have the information, the experience and the awareness to make better decisions than they do, and many still choose against what they know. MrRain finds that gap between knowing and doing both amusing and instructive, and he uses it as the spine of the book.

To explore it, he draws on a wide range of fields. Philosophy, psychology, behavioral economics and neuroscience supply the research. Culture and everyday Nigerian experience supply the setting, so that the lessons arrive in situations readers already recognise. Personal stories and sharp observation tie the material together, and humour keeps it moving.

The subjects are the ones that fill most people’s days: money and ambition, relationships, parenting, technology, mental wellbeing and social behaviour. The book also gives room to mistakes, to the long business of waiting, and to the way small decisions can carry large consequences. Ojobaro’s interest lies in the absurdity of ordinary life, and he treats it with a light hand.

The aim is plain. Small Sense is meant to make readers laugh, to make them think, and to let them see themselves in the pages.

Why He Writes

Behind all three books sits a firm belief in the printed word. In his own words:

“Books will never go out of fashion. They remain one of humanity’s greatest reservoirs of knowledge and an enduring instrument for learning, intellectual growth, and capacity development.

My writing is rooted in personal experiences, academic studies, research, and a broader observation of life. Through my work, I seek to share knowledge, stimulate thought, challenge perspectives, and contribute meaningfully to the continuous growth and development of others.

Ultimately, my goal is to make a contribution, however significant or modest, towards helping the next person become a better, more informed, and more empowered version of themselves.”

The Man Behind the Mic

MrRain holds a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan and a Diploma in Marketing from Olabisi Onabanjo University. The two qualifications mirror the shape of his career, which joins performance with a working knowledge of business and public relations.

In broadcasting, he was named OAP of the Year in 2015 and again in 2016, and he received two national merit award nominations. On screen, he is known for two roles on Africa Magic: Uncle Kata in Awon Aladun De and Commander Buruji in Itura. He is also a director, a comedian, a PR strategist and a leading event host, working under the banner #theCorporateEntertainer.

Public recognition has followed. He has been listed among the Top 30 Influential Youths and the Top 50 Entrepreneurs in Ibadan, and he has been decorated as one of the Top 40 under 40 in Oyo State.

A Record of Service

His commitment to community work is shown in his years with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ibadan. He sat on the board of directors and held a succession of offices. He served as Director of PR and Protocols in 2017, Director of Training and Individual Opportunities in 2018, Editor-in-Chief in 2020, and General Legal Counsel in 2025.

Rebuilding the Stage

Mr Rain is also the founder of Theatre Hub Africa, a production company set up to revive Nigeria’s theatre culture. The venture ties back to his own training in theatre, and it shows a concern for the craft that goes beyond his personal career.

A Coat of Many Colours

The phrase “coat of many colours” suits him well. He is a broadcaster, an actor, a director, a host, a founder and now a three-time author. Whatever the role, he brings the same professionalism and care for creative excellence.

Small Sense extends that record, and it asks readers to take a good-humoured look at their own habits while they are at it.

Small Sense by Babatunde Ojobaro is listed as available soon.
