The court grants a verdict favoring Orits Wiliki, awarding N50 million

0

The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted a verdict awarding N50 million in damages for the loss of revenue to Orits Wiliki.

Mr. Wiliki initiated legal action against Premier Records concerning the utilization and sales of the albums “Tribulation,” “Conqueror,” and “Wha’ Dis Wha’ Dat.”

Furthermore, the court determined that the recording contract between Mr. Wiliki and Premier Records, pertaining to the mentioned albums, expired 25 years after their release.

It also noted inconsistencies in the recording contract relied upon by Premier Records.

Consequently, the court issued a perpetual injunction against Premier Records, restraining them from any further use or sale of the albums “Tribulation,” “Conqueror,” and “Wha’ Dis Wha’ Dat.”

Dangote Refinery obtains approval to process 300,000 barrels per day of crude oil

0

Africa’s wealthiest individual, Aliko Dangote, has announced that his refinery has obtained a license to process over 300,000 barrels of Nigerian crude daily and is poised to commence gasoline production soon.

Speaking during a Riyadh interview at the Saudi-Nigeria business roundtable, Dangote emphasized the refinery’s commitment to kickstarting operations with Nigerian crude rather than foreign sources.

Despite missing the initial production target in August, Dangote remains confident that the refinery will commence production “very very soon.”

Highlighting the refinery’s initial focus on supplying gasoline to Nigeria before expanding to the West African region, Dangote revealed that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is transitioning from crude oil imports to receiving its first cargo within two weeks.

While the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited handles crude oil trading for Nigeria, Dangote’s Executive Director, Devakumar Edwin, disclosed that the NNPCL had committed its crude to other entities, without specifying the recipients.

Although the Dangote refinery boss did not reveal the entities receiving the crude, earlier disclosures mentioned a $3 billion crude oil-for-loan deal between the NNPCL and the African Export-Import Bank.

The 650,000 barrel-a-day facility, projecting significant production of diesel, kerosene, and jet fuel, plans to source crude from various Nigerian producers, including the state oil company.

Aliko Dangote, whose fortune is estimated at $16.2 billion by Bloomberg Billionaires Index, is optimistic about the refinery’s impact on Nigeria’s petroleum production.

Notably, Nigeria recently achieved a 60,000 barrels per day increase in oil output, reaching 1.49 million barrels per day—the highest in nearly two years.

The introduction of the Nembe crude stream, managed through a joint venture between the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Company and Aiteo Eastern E&P Co. Ltd., marks a significant step in the nation’s efforts to boost oil production.

However, challenges like crude theft and pipeline attacks in the Niger Delta continue to impede Nigeria’s ability to meet its OPEC quota, posing difficulties for the government in achieving revenue targets.

Uche Jombo highlights that women exert double the effort to showcase their capabilities

0

Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Uche Jombo, sheds light on the formidable challenges that women encounter as they strive to become successful trailblazers and maintain relevance in the industry.

In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, the renowned actress emphasized the tenacity of women, stating, “Women are inherently serious-minded individuals.”

Reflecting on her journey, she highlighted the persistence required, recounting how some male colleagues who started producing movies simultaneously eventually shifted focus, whereas she remained dedicated to filmmaking.

When questioned about the extra effort women often invest in proving themselves in Nollywood, Jombo attributed it to the industry’s initial status as a “boys club.”

She shared her own experience, noting that it took time for women to be taken seriously as film producers.

The turning point, she mentioned, was her film ‘Damaged,’ which gained recognition and credibility.

Discussing her latest project, ‘Onyeegwu,’ which premiered at the Africa International Film Festival, Uche Jombo expressed her passion for football and film.

Describing the film as a long-desired story, she highlighted the significant journey involved in bringing ‘Onyeegwu’ to fruition.

Bitcoin reaches its highest point in 18 months as a short squeeze fuels a surge in bullish momentum

0

Bitcoin is currently surging to an 18-month high, propelled by reports of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) facing a six-day deadline to greenlight or reject ETFs.

In Thursday’s London trading session, Bitcoin briefly peaked at $36,700, showcasing a remarkable 31% monthly increase and an impressive 93% surge over the past year.

Notably, other major digital assets, including Ether, are also on an upward trajectory, witnessing a substantial 20% gain in the last month.

Market data reveals a short squeeze during the early Asian trading hours, resulting in around $50 million in liquidations over four hours and driving prices even higher.

Initially grappling with a short squeeze, Bitcoin rebounded to nearly $37,000 after a brief setback.

Bulls persisted, propelling the overall crypto market valuation to new heights.

The buying frenzy intensified as the US SEC entered discussions with Grayscale Investments regarding its application to transform GBTC into a crypto sports ETF.

The anticipation of SEC approval for ETF applications holds significant weight in the crypto industry, seen as a milestone that could democratize access to technical asset investments for everyday investors.

Grayscale’s ongoing interaction with the SEC marks a transition from the existing Grayscale Bitcoin Trust to the pursuit of a direct crypto asset ETF.

Bitcoin miners are reaping the benefits of transaction fees, hitting 5% per month, with the average BTC transaction fee hovering around $6 since November 7.

Despite a constrained supply, long-term holders are rapidly accumulating Bitcoin.

Glassnode data suggests a shift in market dynamics beyond the $30,000 threshold, aligning with a pivotal level in the quarterly outlook.
