The family of the late South African rapper Kiernan Forbes (aka AKA) has announced plans to release his upcoming album Mass Country.

Before his death, Forbes shared several posts on their social media to promote their new album due out this February.

According to a press statement posted on the artist’s official Instagram page on Thursday, the Forbes family will continue to post their work as planned β€œto honor his legacy.”

As the nation mourns the tragic and untimely death of Kiernan aka Forbes, the Forbes family is grateful for the love and support from South Africa and beyond.

The family continues to please the son. To honor their legacy, they have decided to continue with the release of their main country album scheduled for February 24, 2023.

At the request of the rapper, the song β€œCompany” featuring Nigerian Kiddominant will be released on Friday ahead of the release of the full album next week.

AKA was killed along with close friend Tebello β€œTibz” Motsoane in a shootout in Durban, South Africa, on Friday.

Afrobeats singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has expressed shock over the death of South African Rapper, Kiernan Forbes alias AKA.

Ogulu took to his Instagram stories where he shared an unreleased track in which he sang about the tragic death of the artiste.

According to him, he had advised AKA to purchase a gun after the latter had called him β€œwild” for owning one.

β€œWTF is all of that about? I just heard he died, seen that video at that restaurant. Took me out of a positive mood/ Took me back to that day when you saw my gun and you said I was wild/ Then I told you you should have one too,” he sang.

The β€˜Last Last’ singer also referenced his beef with the rapper and stated that despite their differences, he never wanted him dead.

β€œBut I didn’t want you dead, it was like that with me and you, have one too/ Cuz it weren’t like niggaz wasn’t dying but I thought you knew/ And I ain’t really f**k with you/

Wicked! I hope they catch whoever did you wicked/ I hope you rest in peace, even though we ain’t kick it/ At the end of the day we some grown ass ni**az,” he continued.

At the height of the 2019 xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa, Burna Boy condemned the act and threatened not to step foot in the country.

However, the issue escalated into a spat between him and the South African rapper on Twitter.

In a now-deleted tweet, Burna Boy had threatened AKA and asked the rapper to beef up his security.

β€œNext time, I see you, you better have a big security bro, on Gambo’s Grave, ur gunna need it(sic),” he wrote.

The South African artiste was shot dead in a drive-by attack at a restaurant in Durban, South Africa. His longtime friend, Tebello β€˜Tibz’ Motsoane, was also killed in the shooting.

Adeolu Adefarasin: An Open Letter to Nollywood

0

While the eyes of the world turn to Nollywood, your duty is not to feed the narrative, but to change the narrative. The stories we tell matter.

To the industry I love dearly,

Now more than ever, I believe Nollywood is on the precipice of greatness, the eyes of the world are facing you and you have a great opportunity to speak, to be seen and to be heard. For far longer than I have been an active member of this valued industry, many before me have dreamt of the day that the reach and influence of Nollywood would go far and wide. I know there is so much to be proud of.

In the same breath, I am aware that with such great influence comes a weighty responsibility that cannot be ignored. Amongst the many lessons of 2022, I have learned that it is harder to speak truth to power when you seek the help that power can offer. So, at this moment, I lay down my personal aspirations and hopes for what I believe is the greater good, not just of the industry but the many people it influences.

As Nigerians, we have not always been set the best example, not by our elders, not by our leaders – political or otherwise, and not even by our peers. In the midst of that, we managed, for a long time, to maintain hope and a sense of moral integrity – two things I believe are waning under the pressure of present circumstances and the everyday realities of most Nigerians. I believe it is your responsibility to restore hope and a moral core to the masses, I believe it is a responsibility that has been neglected for quick financial gain, I believe it is a responsibility that can be ignored no longer because our nation is at hand.

We cannot follow the footsteps of Hollywood, we cannot lose our moral centre and continue to glorify sexual depravity, corruption, hate and many more. I am so proud of the global success of Nigerians in industries such as music and fashion, but I fear it has come at the great expense of many souls. Music that glorifies drug use, yahoo yahoo and objectifies women. A fashion industry that sexualises everyone and promotes gender ambiguity. We have sold our souls to the highest bidder and my cry is that Nollywood does not follow suit.

It is easy to read this and believe I am acting morally superior. I am not. I am not without my many failings and faults, some of which, I am sure, are still in my future. It is also easy to read this and think of me in my office as a pastor, but I am not speaking only as a Christian, but as a Nigerian. I am writing this to Christians, Muslims and atheists alike. I do not believe these values are religious, I was not taught these values merely within the context of my home, but within the context of my nation. I believe at the very core, as Nigerians, we are good, selfless, kind and compassionate.

For far too long, the narrative on Nigeria and Nigerians has been 419, corrupt and inept leaders, police brutality, Yoruba demons, and so on. While the eyes of the world turn to Nollywood, your duty is not to feed the narrative, but to change the narrative. The stories we tell matter. It has brought me great joy in recent weeks to watch shows such as Far From Home. Unfortunately, productions like this are few and far between. Instead, we see more films glorifying β€˜the bad guy,’ glamorising corruption and galvanising division.

Up until now, we have let the western world take advantage of our unpreparedness in the face of unrest, pain and desperation, to paint doubt in our own identities and values. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, but Nollywood, you are primed, poised and positioned to show that success does not have to come at the expense of our souls and to set the framework for the rebuilding of our nation.

The Role of PRs in Movie Distribution

0

Public Relations (PR) play a vital role in the successful distribution of movies in the entertainment industry. It is the job of PR professionals to craft and spread the right kind of message to the public, build relationships with key media contacts, and create strategies that promote the release of new films in the most efficient manner. The success of a movie depends heavily on the right PR strategy and tactics, and this is why the importance of well-planned PR campaigns cannot be understated.

Medullar Concept Pr/Production Consultant

At the very beginning, when a movie is still in production, PR professionals can create buzz around the movie. This can mean sending out press releases to inform media contacts about the movie’s cast, crew, and storyline, or creating an engaging social media presence to engage potential viewers and build anticipation for the release. In addition, PR professionals foster relationships with theater owners which allows them to negotiate for theater space and secure the film for screenings.

As the movie is released, the job of the PR professional is to ensure the movie is reaching the right audience. This means that PR strategists can create strategic campaigns to influence potential viewers, such as developing promotional materials such as trailers, website content and posters, and leveraging connections to secure interviews with actors and other key stakeholders to generate interest in the movie.

The overall aim of the PR professional is to create a positive image of the movie and ensure its successful distribution. PR professionals do this by targeting key influencers, using the most current communications tools to reach the widest possible audience, and working with theater owners to secure the right locations and prices for public screenings. In addition, strong relationships with media contacts are essential in maintaining momentum and keeping the film top of mind with its target audiences.

In conclusion, the role of PR in movie distribution is integral. It is up to PR professionals to develop effective messaging and communication strategies that can set the stage for the success of a movie. By targeting the right audience, building key relationships and creating positive messaging, PR professionals can ensure that a movie is released to maximum po

tential.
