Music Has Always Been My Passion – Dare Praise

0

My name is Dare Ayanwamide Opeyemi, but I go by the stage name Dare Praise. I am a native of Oyo State, specifically Fiditi Afijio LGA.

I am a devoted Christian, married to one wife, and have children.

Becoming a gospel artist is a calling for me, and I started on the hip hop line of music before transitioning to gospel.

Music has always been my passion since childhood, and I am grateful to be doing what I love.

One of my most meaningful moments in my gospel career was when people started inviting my musical crew to perform at events.

Additionally, I composed an advertisement jingle for a multimillion naira haulage company, GPC Energy and Logistics, and was compensated by the CEO of the organization.

My music is full of messages and inspiration that can inspire listeners.

I strive to balance my personal journey and music together.

My creative process in the studio involves receiving messages for songs and even dreaming about new songs.

My advice to aspiring artists is to stay focused and true to themselves. I have great admiration for Dr. Ebenezer Obey, Sunny Ade, Yinka Aiyefele, and my role model, Otunba Femi Fadipe Femolancasta.

I am excited to announce my upcoming project, the annual midyear praise medley season 0.3, where I will feature prominent artists in Nigeria. Stay tuned for more updates!

Adeleke wins at Appeal Court, Oyetola slapped with N500,000 fine

0

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Friday, set aside the tribunal judgment that nullified the election of Ademola Adeleke as governor of Osun State.

The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Mohammed Lawal, held that the appeal lodged by Adeleke to challenge his sack by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal was meritorious.

The court also held that the sum of N500,000 is awarded as a cost against the All Progressive Congress, APC, and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.

During the ruling, the justice resolved that the preponderance of proof that there was over-voting in the elections rested on the petitioner.

The court also maintained that “the party alleging non-compliance with the electoral act must prove its case without merely relying on the weakness of the other party.”

Delivering judgment, Justice Mohammed Shaibu overruled the judgment of the governorship election tribunal that nullified the outcome of the July governorship polls.

The three-man panel revoked the tribunal’s order which directed that a Certificate of Return be withdrawn from Adeleke and issued to his predecessor and All Progressives Congress candidate, Oyetola.

The Osun tribunal had annulled Adeleke’s victory and affirmed Gboyega Oyetola of All Progressives Congress as the authentic winner of the poll after the Independent National Electoral Commission had returned Adeleke as the winner of the poll.

INEC said Adeleke polled 403,371 votes to defeat then-incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC, who got 375,027 votes

But Oyetola and the APC rejected the result of the poll and headed for the tribunal.

In its January 27, 2023 majority verdict, the Justice Tertse Kume-led tribunal annulled Adeleke’s victory and declared Oyetola the winner of the poll.

However, a minority judgment by Justice B. Ogbuli affirmed Adeleke as the winner of the poll.

Displeased, Adeleke and the PDP headed for the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal heard the appeal on March 13 and reserved its judgment.

But the court of Appeal on Friday set aside the tribunal judgement, affirming Adeleke as the authentic winner and governor of Osun State.

World Athletics Bans Transgender Women From Women’s Competition

0

MANCHESTER, England, March 23 (Reuters) – World Athletics has banned transgender women from competing in elite female competitions and tightened testosterone restrictions for other athletes, the governing body said on Thursday.

World Athletics president Sebastian Coe said that the decision to exclude transgender women who had gone through male puberty was based “on the overarching need to protect the female category”.

The tighter measures around one of the most contentious and divisive issues in sport follow a similar move by World Aquatics in 2022.

World Athletics’ council also voted to cut the maximum amount of plasma testosterone for athletes with Differences in Sex Development (DSD) in half, to 2.5 nanomoles per litre from five.

DSD athletes will also have to reduce their testosterone levels below the new limit for a minimum of 24 months across all events to compete, double the previous time.

The governing body had previously floated the option of transgender athletes being allowed to compete in the female category if they, too, maintained testosterone levels below 2.5 nanomoles per litre for 24 months.

Yet it said on Thursday that it became apparent there was little support within the sport for that proposal.

“We’re not saying no forever,” Coe told a news conference.

Coe announced the formation of a working group, which will be chaired by a transgender athlete, to further study the issue of trans inclusion.

“The working group will look at any prevailing or changing or furthering of our understanding in that space,” Coe said. “We don’t know enough, we now need to know more, and that is the journey that we’re on. But we weren’t prepared to risk the female category on that basis.”

The tighter testosterone rules will impact DSD athletes such as two-times Olympic 800 metre champion Caster Semenya, Christine Mboma, the 2020 Olympic silver medallist in the 200m, and Francine Niyonsaba, who finished runner-up to Semenya in the 800 at the 2016 Olympics.

No fewer than 30 persons were arrested for allegedly engaging in electoral violence and vote buying during the March 18 governorship election in the Ogun State.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Frank Mba, disclosed this on Thursday.

Mba said this while speaking with journalists during a visit to the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He explained that the suspects were arrested in various parts of the state for unlawful possession of firearms, inducement and vote buying during the election, among other offences.

The CP also disclosed that police also recovered 12 firearms, including an English made beretta pistol, 25 live cartridges and eight expended cartridges

According to him, 235 credit cards and customised ATM cards were also recovered from the suspects engaging in vote buying.

Mba said, “A total of 30 persons were arrested. They were arrested for various offences, ranging from unlawful possession of weapons to disorderly behaviour around polling units, conduct likely to cause breach of peace and also for offences relating to insertion of undue influence and attempt to indulge in vote buying.

“We also recovered a total of 12 firearms of different mix and shapes, most of them are locally fabricated shotguns.

“We also recovered one beretta pistol, an English made pistol. We recovered a total of 25 live cartridges and eight expended cartridges.

“We also have with us a total of 235 credit cards or ATM cards which are very customised ATM and credit cards.

He noted that investigations are ongoing and promised to keep citizens of the state update on progress of the cases.

“You can trust us that we will certainly and surely do a good job.”

Mbah assured that the suspects would be handed over to the INEC for proper prosecution after conclusion of investigation to determine level of complicity and culpability.

“We believe that will be done very soon. You know under the new rules, prosecution is handled by INEC. At the right time, under the right directives from the office of the Inspector General of Police, these cases will naturally be transferred to INEC and we will work together with them, support them and ensure that these cases are diligently prosecuted.”

PDP suspends Fayose, Anyim, two others

0

The Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday suspended former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose; former president of the Senate, Pius Anyim; Prof Dennis Ityavyar and Aslam Aliyu.

The suspension, which takes effect on Thursday, was arrived at after an extensive review of the affairs of the party, pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

The PDP also referred the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, to the National Disciplinary Committee over his reported involvement in anti-party activities.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.

The PDP urges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our party across the country to remain united and focused at this critical time,” the statement added.

Fayose blamed stakeholders and politicians for a majority of the problems facing the country currently.

Fayose disclosed that there was a lot wrong with Nigeria, adding that nothing had changed in the country since 1979.

There is a lot wrong with Nigeria. Since 1979, nothing has changed. I blamed the majority of the problems on the stakeholders and politicians.

“When you asked (Muhammadu) Buhari in 2015, If you lose the election, would you concede defeat?’ he said ‘I would win’. He never conceived he would lose.

“I told you the senators, House of Reps members are returning to the National Assembly. The system is sick. Nobody is protecting it.

“Rather than blame the Independent National Electoral Commission, we need to draw a red line like the army. Nothing was wrong in the elections,” he said.

CITN promotes tax culture in schools.

0

The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has rewarded students who performed well in its quiz competition as part of efforts to drive tax culture in the youths and boost government revenue.

The CITN gave different prizes to secondary school students who were outstanding at the grand finale of Lagos State all secondary schools tax quiz competition programme, which was sponsored by a member of the institute, Pro Ezekiel Williams, in Lagos.

The winner of the quiz won N300,000 and a full scholarship for the first year in the university.

The first and second runners-up also got N200,000 and N100,000 respectively.

Other consolation prizes were given to other top participants.

The President, CITN, Chief Adesina Adedayo, said, “We actually created this programme in order to ensure that the issue of taxation is brought to the level of the classroom, and in order to make this happen, we have decided that we are not waiting till they get to tertiary levels, we should start dealing with it at secondary level.

“When it is clear that the knowledge of taxation, the laws, the administration and the policy framework are understood by students at this basic level, it is clear that we are winning the fight against ignorance.”

To reduce tax ignorance, he said the CITN had organised similar programme in some other states.

Speaking on his reason for sponsoring the event, Williams said, “We have been having the dearth of knowledge in taxation. If you ask an average adult in Nigerian that what is the meaning of tax, most of them cannot even give you a definition.

We want to catch them young so that at this level of their age, they will understand what the issue of taxation.”

According to him, if Nigeria could develop its tax revenue, it would have no need to continue to borrow money to fund its budget.

The Chairman, Students Affairs and Tertiary Education Relations Committee, Dr Titilayo Fowokan, said the CITN had the support of Lagos State to organise the quiz, and that about 60 schools and 700 students participated.

She said, “We know that taxation is something that even some adults don’t want to hear about, but we believe that we should inculcate in our young ones the taxpaying culture, learning about taxation and also letting them understand that tax is a lucrative business.

“So we want to start catching them from secondary school, create the interest in taxation in them to let them know it can be taken as a career of choice.”
