As part of its annual list, TIME magazine recognises 100 rising stars from across industries and worldwide.

The magazine released its TIME100 Next list earlier today, which includes familiar faces like Keke Palmer and SZA (who even landed their own covers), Khaby Lame, Elizabeth Wathuti, Ncuti Gatwa, and Ayo Edebiri.

“There is no one way to have an impact, so there is no one way by which TIME measures the influence essential to its selections, TIME says in an essay explaining how the magazine selected the winners. “As a result, and by design, the 2022 TIME100 Next list features musicians as well as medical professionals, government officials as well as movement leaders, and high-profile whistle-blowers alongside top CEOs—all curated by TIME’s journalists and informed by their reporting.”

Khalid Ahalu Makes a Statement With Beauty Tukura at Showmax’s Diiche Premiere.

0

It was a beautiful moment last night on social media as #BBNAIJA ex-housemates unofficially reunited at the premiere of the Showmax original series ‘Diiche’. The housemates light up the environment as the latest celebrities in Nigeria and Africa at large. Despite being new to celebrity status, they are the stars of the event without doubt.

The moment pictures of Khalid and Beauty Tukura appeared online, the internet became more aware of the event, both housemates shared the images on their social media account and the fans took it to another level of ‘pepper dem’.

It’s also been mentioned that Beauty and Khalid’s departure from the show was arguably the most shocking and upsetting experience for the show’s viewers, both supporters and detractors. However, the lovely aspect of their departure is that they both have a strong fanbase, “Beenavy for Beauty and Hordes for Khalid,” more so than the housemates who stayed in the house for 7 weeks and 8 weeks, and even most of the 9-weeks and finalist housemates don’t have organic fans like Beauty

Take a look at the lovely pictures below and enjoy them.

John Mikel Obi has announced his retirement from professional football.

John Mikel Obi, a former captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria and a legend at Chelsea, has declared his retirement from the game.

Obi, who had a very successful career at both the club and international levels, announced his retirement on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, via his official Instagram account.

In a statement, Obi said, “There is a saying that “all good things must come to an end”, and for my professional football career, that day is today.

I look back at the past 20 years of my career, and I must say that I am very satisfied with all that I was able to achieve and more importantly the human it has helped shape.

All of this would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, managers, clubs, coaches, teammates and most importantly my ever-loyal fans. You supported me through my highs and lows, even on days that I did not live up to your expectations. I say a big thank you.

I will also like to encourage everyone who I may have inspired one way or the other in the course of my career to never give up on their dreams, for every time you think about quitting, remind yourself why you started.

This is not goodbye, it’s the start of another journey, another chapter of my life. I look forward to what the future holds and I hope you will walk with me. Thank you.

Prior to the Global Citizen Festival, Usher Toured Accra; see pictures

Popular American Pop and RnB superstar, Usher was in Accra, Ghana, to perform at the Global Citizen Festival which took place on Saturday, September 24, 2022.

The Grammy award-winning singer who arrived in the country’s capital, Accra two days prior, immediately visited the BASIC International schools in the Chorkor community in Ghana — as part of the Global Citizens campaign to create awareness and raise funds for the ‘Defend The Planet’ project which is aimed at protecting the earth and keeping the sea safe.

Organised by the Global Citizens campaign, Usher was received by the school management and students from Grades 7 and 8, who encouraged them to be good ambassadors and ensure they excelled in their education. He also visited several sites in the Chorkor community, meeting with local traders and fishermen in that region. BASICS International — a global community-based intervention program, promoting literacy, economic empowerment, health, wellness and social inclusion, since 2000 has changed the Chorkor community — impacting over 300,000 through community outreach and so far, provided over 3000 educational sponsorships, of which half was provided to the girl child.

During his tour, Usher also visited the historical Cape Coast Town and made a stop at the Cape Coast castle — a sacred place which served as the point of trade for captives and slaves — where the singer took a solemn moment to reflect on the pain and suffering his ancestors had passed through.

Usher was live at the Global Citizen Festival, performing alongside other incredible African acts like Tiwa Savage, Gyakie, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Stormzy, SZA, Oxlade, Tems and Uncle Waffles.

At the Global Citizen Festival, Tems Dazzles in a Stunning Lace Catsuit.

“Adieu, Salut,” a short film by Korede Azeez, will premiere on Netflix soon!

0

Cinema Kpatakpata, the production company behind the critically acclaimed films “Confusion Na Wa” and “Lost Cafe,” is working on “Adieu, Salut,” a short film set to debut on Netflix. The project is written and directed by Korede Azeez. It is one of six winners of the Netflix and UNESCO African Folktales Reimagined Competition, and the only one from Nigeria and the rest of West Africa.

At the time of the announcement of winners in March, Ben Amadasun, Netflix Director of Content in Africa, said that thousands of entries were whittled down to 21 and then six. “It’s evident that Africa is filled with amazing storytelling talent that is ready to share their different perspectives and celebrate Africa’s rich culture and heritage,” he noted. “Congratulations to the winners—and to emerging filmmakers who didn’t make it, we urge you to continue your passion for telling African stories.”

“Adieu, Salut” is a lo-fi sci-fi story about a young girl who fights for control over her fate. Set in the not-so-distant future where everyone but the people of a small Fulani village uploaded themselves into a virtual world, the plot unfolds in a familiar but different world.

According to Azeez;

The film was the product of thoughts I had held for some time, so when Netflix made the call for entries last year, it wasn’t too difficult finding the right material to form the basis of my reimagined folktale. I submitted my entry, I got the email months later, and here we are.

I’m looking forward to viewers’ reactions after Adieu, Salut debuts. It’s wonderful to be able to make a statement through the magical medium of film, especially on such a big platform as Netflix. This story is dear to me and I hope the audience loves it as much as I do.

In producing the film, Kenneth Gyang, founder of Cinema Kpatakpata and the acclaimed director behind EbonyLife Studios‘ “Blood Sisters” and “Oloture,” said he was looking to give Azeez’s story “the care it deserved”, adding that post-production of the film is ongoing at Cinema Kpatakpata’s facility in Nigeria and finishing will be done in South Africa.

Korede is a talented writer and Adieu, Salut is a remarkable project. Cinema Kpatakpata has a slate of films to be produced over the next year and we are incredibly proud to have Korede’s film with Netflix as part of our exciting lineup.
