Mercy Aigbe: The Unstoppable Force Dominating Nollywood This Season

0

This October, the spotlight shines brightly on one woman who has turned the month into her personal cinema showcase, the ever-dazzling Mercy Aigbe. If Nollywood were a corporate empire, she would, without question, be crowned Employee of the Month.

With two major blockbusters lighting up theatres, two more on the verge of release, and another pair holding strong on streaming platforms, Mercy Aigbe has completely owned October. It is no exaggeration to say that 2025 has been her most extraordinary and relentless year yet a season of back-to-back triumphs both as a producer and as a featured actress.

From YouTube to the big screen, Mercy’s creative energy seems boundless. Since the start of the year, she has barely paused long enough for the industry or her fans to catch their breath. Each new role reveals another layer of her artistry, reinforcing why she remains one of Nollywood’s most bankable and beloved stars.

Her performances in Farmer’s Bride and My Mother is a Witch offered a glimpse into her evolving craft; raw, layered, and deeply human. These films reintroduced her not merely as a fashion icon or celebrity producer, but as a performer with remarkable emotional range and conviction.

And then came this season her defining month. In just a few weeks, Mercy has delivered an impressive lineup of titles: Thin Line, Farmer’s Bride, The Herd, and Idia; a cinematic sweep unmatched by any other actor this season. Meanwhile, her earlier hit Ada Omo Daddy continues to thrive on streaming platform Kava, proving her staying power both in cinemas and online.

For an actress who shows no sign of slowing down, the next act promises even greater things. Mercy is set to appear in Niyi Akinmolayan’s highly anticipated epic Colours of Fire, a film already generating major buzz following its teaser reveal at the FilmOne Showcase. If the preview is any indication, she’s about to set the screen ablaze once again.

Mercy Aigbe’s 2025 journey is a masterclass in consistency, resilience, and reinvention. Whether she’s behind the camera or commanding the spotlight, she continues to redefine what it means to be a modern Nollywood star — one who builds, inspires, and endures.

Lagos State Launches OMI-EKO Project to Transform Water Transportation System

0

The Lagos State Government has officially launched the OMI-EKO Project, a major infrastructure and mobility initiative aimed at transforming water transportation across the state. The project marks a decisive step in the state’s long-term strategy to create a cleaner, safer, and more efficient transport network for residents and businesses.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, speaking at the launch, described the initiative as a turning point in Lagos’s transport history. “For generations, Lagos has been defined by water, yet our roads have carried most of the city’s movement. The OMI-EKO Project changes that narrative through focused investment in modern water transport,” he said.

The ambitious program consists of two major components. The first involves the construction and modernization of inland waterways infrastructure. This includes the development of 15 priority ferry routes, dredging and marking of 140 kilometers of navigable channels, and the establishment of 25 modern ferry terminals and jetties. These facilities will feature electric charging points for eco-friendly vessels, maintenance depots, and improved road connectivity to enhance commuter access.

The second component focuses on sustainable operations and digital innovation. Lagos plans to deploy more than 75 electric-powered ferries equipped with intelligent transport systems to streamline ticketing, scheduling, and passenger information. The project also includes a strong capacity-building program for the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) to strengthen regulation, safety standards, and service delivery.

According to the state government, the OMI-EKO Project will ease road congestion, reduce travel time, and open new economic opportunities through improved access between communities along the waterways. It is also expected to contribute significantly to Lagos’s environmental goals by promoting cleaner transport alternatives and lowering carbon emissions.

Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to international partners—the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Union (EU), and the European Investment Bank (EIB)—for their technical and financial support. “Their partnership has been vital in bringing this vision to life and ensuring that water becomes a true channel for mobility and opportunity in Lagos,” he said.

With implementation already underway, the OMI-EKO Project is set to redefine urban transport in Africa’s largest city and position Lagos as a model for sustainable mobility in the region.

Nigeria Moves to Expand Gold Industry as Global Prices Hit Record High

0

Nigeria is intensifying efforts to develop its gold industry following a historic surge in global prices, which have reached an unprecedented $4,250 per ounce. The government views the record-breaking trend as a significant economic opportunity to diversify national income and reduce the country’s long-standing dependence on crude oil.

In response, authorities have begun accelerating reforms within the solid minerals sector, focusing on formalizing local mining operations and attracting both domestic and international investment. Several gold exploration and production projects are currently underway across states including Osun, Kebbi, Niger, and Zamfara, where artisanal mining activities have historically been concentrated.

Officials from the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development say that the government’s strategy involves tightening regulatory oversight, enhancing environmental and safety standards, and promoting value addition through local refining and processing. By refining gold within Nigeria, the administration aims to retain more value in the economy and reduce losses from raw exports.

Economic experts have praised the move as timely, given the global shift toward resource diversification and the rising demand for precious metals as a financial hedge. They note that a well-structured gold industry could generate thousands of jobs, boost export earnings, and strengthen the naira through increased foreign exchange inflows.

If successfully implemented, Nigeria’s gold development agenda could position the nation as one of Africa’s leading gold producers, alongside Ghana and South Africa. Beyond its economic promise, the initiative also signals a strategic turn toward sustainable resource management and industrial growth driven by non-oil sectors.

Nigeria Leads Africa’s Solar Energy Revolution with $3 Billion Investment Drive

0

Nigeria is taking a major step toward energy independence and sustainability as the country positions itself at the forefront of Africa’s solar revolution. Under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the nation is driving an ambitious $3 billion renewable energy program that aims to add more than 4 gigawatts (GW) of solar power to the national grid.

The initiative, backed by both private investors and international partners, includes over $400 million in new mini-grid projects designed to bring electricity to underserved and rural communities. The program seeks not only to reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels but also to create thousands of new jobs in the renewable energy sector.

Several key players are leading the charge in Nigeria’s solar transformation. Companies such as Renew Power, Tranos, Auxano Solar, and Oando Clean Energy are spearheading installations and infrastructure projects across multiple states. These efforts are being supported by technical and financial assistance from Germany and the European Union, underscoring growing international confidence in Nigeria’s clean energy agenda.

Analysts say this development could redefine Africa’s energy landscape, as Nigeria’s model demonstrates how a mix of local innovation, private investment, and international collaboration can accelerate access to clean, affordable power. Beyond electricity generation, the initiative also highlights a deeper vision of economic sovereignty — one that ties energy access to national growth, industrial productivity, and environmental responsibility.

With over 80 million Nigerians still lacking reliable electricity, the government’s solar rollout marks a turning point in efforts to close the power gap while meeting climate goals. If successfully implemented, Nigeria’s $3 billion solar drive could establish the country as a renewable energy leader not just in Africa, but globally.

Opposition Hiding Under Free Nnamdi Kanu Protest To Seek Regime Change , Unfortunately Igbos Will Be The Scapegoats.

In an attempt to further incite people to participate in the mischievous campaign against the judiciary, deceptively tagged; #FreeNnamdiKanu protest, Omoyele Sowore made a post trying to compare Nnamdi Kanu, standing trial for terrorism, to MKO Abiola who was imprisoned by the military junta of Sani Abacha for insisting on reclaiming his freely given mandate in 1993.

Sowore knows what he is doing. He, in cahoots with some selfish opposition leaders, including the subsidy and forex cabals who have not forgiven President Tinubu for the courage to withdraw subsidy on petroleum products and floating the Naira, are combining forces to topple the Tinubu administration.

They had tried many strategies in the past, with none gaining any traction. Sowore, whose many protests had recorded very scanty compliance, as he is hardly able to mobilise up to 100 people to any of his many protests, jumped at the opportunity to lead this protest, knowing how emotional Igbos could get at anything that has to do with Biafra and any charlatan, like Nnamdi Kanu, who postures as a Biafran secessionist, to launch a campaign for a possible regime change.

I have listened to people talk about this, and I know that none among the organisers and sponsors of this protest really cares about Nnamdi Kanu, rather they are looking for any opportunity to topple the Tinubu government.

Whenever you talk about Igbo marginalisation, you are sure to get a lot of attention, but rarely does anyone of those who talk about it, care about supporting any idea that will bring an end to Igbo marginalisation. At most, they exploit the unpalatable political situation or the Igbos to further exploit them for their own political and other selfish gains.

Sowore and his sponsors are enlightened enough to know that Nnamdi Kanu is not being detained illegally, and that rather than being a political prisoner as they would want us to believe, he is a suspected terrorist, who has been given ample opportunities to prove himself innocent. The Federal Government is not also to be blamed for the delay in his prosecution, rather his legal team has deliberately delayed the proceedings, believing that somehow, they might blackmail the government into abandoning the trial.

While I am confident that this protest will fail to achieve its major aim, which is to topple the Tinubu administration, I am disturbed the Igbos are not doing enough to resist the bait by these desperate politicians and corrupt cabals of subsidy and forex criminals, whom Tinubu has largely stopped from ripping Nigerians off.

Let it be on record that Ndigbo are not driving this campaign for regime change deceptively made to look like a free Nnamdi Kanu protest. We are democrats and we shall wait for the 2027 elections to exercise our right through the ballots. This is a Sowore/Atiku scheme and Ndigbo are not part of it.

Funke Akindele Reveals Divine Inspiration Behind New Film Behind The Scenes at FilmOne Exhibitors Showcase 2025

0

Award-winning filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele surprised audiences at the FilmOne Exhibitors Showcase 2025 with a heartfelt revelation about the making of her upcoming film, Behind The Scenes.

Speaking during the event, Akindele disclosed that Behind The Scenes was not the movie she initially intended to produce. Her original plan, she explained, was to create a sequel to her blockbuster hit, A Tribe Called Judah. Production discussions, scripts, and potential partnerships for A Tribe Called Judah Part 2 were already in progress when an unexpected spiritual message changed her direction.

According to Akindele, she felt a strong prompting from the Spirit of God to pause the sequel. Despite reviewing four different scripts and engaging in multiple partnership talks, she said the same message persisted:

> “You’re wasting your time. You will shoot this film.”

That film, she later realized, was Behind The Scenes.

Describing the project, Akindele said it is deeply personal and reflective, capturing struggles and life lessons that resonate with many people. She emphasized that the story serves as a wake-up call, blending emotional depth with powerful storytelling that speaks to perseverance, purpose, and faith.

> “This film mirrors what so many of us go through — moments of doubt, redirection, and finding meaning in unexpected places,” she shared.

After months of intense production, Akindele confirmed that Behind The Scenes is complete and will officially premiere this December.

The announcement has generated widespread excitement within the Nollywood community and among fans, many eager to see how Akindele’s latest creative journey unfolds. Known for her cinematic hits such as Battle on Buka Street and A Tribe Called Judah, the filmmaker’s upcoming release is already being hailed as one of the most anticipated Nigerian films of 2025.

BREAKING: Tinubu Restores Power to the North as Maiduguri’s 50MW Emergency Plant Runs at Full Capacity

The city of Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, is experiencing a major turnaround as the 50-megawatt (MW) Emergency Power Plant has been fully revitalized and is now operating at maximum capacity under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Commissioned in 2023, the power project was originally conceived to restore electricity to Maiduguri and surrounding communities after years of disruption caused by insurgent attacks that crippled the region’s power infrastructure.

Under the Tinubu-led administration, the facility has undergone significant maintenance and optimization, resulting in the delivery of steady and reliable electricity to thousands of homes, businesses, and public institutions across the Borno capital.

The renewed functionality of the plant marks a critical milestone in the federal government’s commitment to rebuilding the North and restoring essential services. It also underscores Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which prioritizes infrastructure recovery, energy security, and regional stability.

Government sources confirmed that the Armed Forces of Nigeria and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) are actively safeguarding the facility and other key infrastructure points to prevent renewed attacks and ensure uninterrupted power supply.

Residents of Maiduguri have lauded the achievement, describing it as a symbol of resilience and progress after years of darkness and insecurity.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum also commended the federal government for its sustained intervention, noting that consistent power supply would boost economic recovery, encourage investment, and improve the living standards of Borno’s people.

With stability gradually returning to the region, the successful operation of the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant stands as a testament to Nigeria’s resolve to rebuild the North and light up communities once dimmed by conflict.
